Default Whats should I pay for this Spectra?

A friend of mine wants an inexpensive jet boat and he has the chance to buy this Spectra but I'm unsure what it is really worth. Here are the details I have been told.

19.5 Spectra I'm guessing late 70's hull (Seller isn't sure on year)
    Jaccouzi drive
Olds 455 punch 60 over. Under 100 hours on motor
Tandem axle trailer (Solid but needs paint and wheels)
Hull appears sound but faded gel coat
    interior shot except front buckets
    Floor replaced last year.

What would you say the boat is worth as is and what would it be worth refinished?

if it were me i would only consider something like that for under 1k...may $800 or so. In my opinion a boat like that, with an undesirable power plant and jet, in the fully assembled but very bad shape, is worse than a gutted ready to repair and assemble deal. you have a ton a junk parts that have to come off, and you are bound to find things that need repair underneath all those junk parts. cool boat, but overall i wouldn't pay much for it...but that just me.

The sellers bottom dollar is 3000 but I thought that was high. The motor isn't an issue for my friend considering he isn't a speed freak but it is a boat we were thinking about doing a resto on and then turning around and selling it.

I thought 2000-2500 tops but maybe I'm out of whack here. I know not many like the Olds motors but I had one and it always ran great. However I know nothing about the Jaccouzi pump. Are they that bad?

dude is smoking something. you would be better off finding the MANY MANY nice running boats out here in cali from 3k-5k and pulling it back. way good deals out there...this is not one of them.

    look: http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/boa/1665698815.html

way less work, way better starting condition, way less money.

or something like this for a little more ready to run: http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/boa/1660048087.html

up in sac. but still: http://sacramento.craigslist.org/boa/1667325900.html

all of these would be worth your time and money spent driving rather than fixing something like the pile you posted...again, just my opinion.

there are also many people on here that have, and would go again to look at a boat for an out of towner thing of buying. but even if you took a week trip, you could come down and look at 20 different deals and find something you were looking for. i have never seen so many clean boats, ready to run, for such good prices.

I am not sure I would even pick it up for $1000 ?

If it were a desirable hull that you could restore down the road I might think about it for $1000 but other than that forget it.....

Lots of other boats out there that will allow you to be on the water this summer instead of wrenching on that bucket

Not to sound pessimistic, but I would advise your buddy to keep looking. That boat is just not worth the effort unless money and time are of no concern. Spectras are a nice hull, but you'll want that coupled with either a Chevy or Ford powerplant and a Berkeley-style pump.
