dont fell bad. i took mine to elsinore last week, made one nice pass across the middle and it cost me a cracked cylinder wall and four pistons. I think the distributer vibrated loose and advanced it to comit suicide. at least we got a month till memorial day.

Thats what Winter time is for, work on the boats so your dialed in for Spring and you just gotta make it to Labor Day then do it all over again .

It's better to find it while the boat's in the garage. You could have been cruisin down river and found a lot more.

    When were those installed?

If it came loose it would retard your timing. I don't know if it makes you feel any better. Sorry about your motor

Not necessarily. I had a jet boat with a mech tach. The dist was a little loose, and at 6,000rpms the loaded tach cable advanced the timing 100 degrees!! blew head gaskets between all cylinders!! I kept those gaskets for years to prove it could happen. I didn't think a motor could run with that much advance. But yes you're right, norminally it will retard.
