Is it true that the Firebird total boat count is about 50? That can't be right!

Jeff is having fun. has the tree figured and is cutting great lights. He's still working on the boat to get it to run the number. He said it was windy today and not a lot of boats racing. Something like 47 total.

TFH (4), TAH (3), TAF (7), PM (11), PCE (2), PE (10), TE (10), ME (4), SE (5), RR (5) ... Total # Boats, 61 ..... Lot's of room in the Pits and not many people to get in the way ..... Anywhere.

No Contingency Stickers (i.e., No Contingency Money Paid, Lucas says, "Still Working On It"), don't know about 'Sportsman' Classes Prize Money, if any.

In my opinion, it has been made abundantly clear what the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Series is about: TFH, TAH, TAF & PM and Lucas marketing his products to increase market share and his Profit via product sales and TV revenues ..... Nothing more, nothing less.

While the Lucas Organization has been totally up front about their focus on TFH, TAH, TAF & PM, I don't think a number of open boat people that have 'bought into this whole thing' really understand the consequenses of what this really means for open boat racing ... Just my Opinion as an open boat owner/crewchief based on what I've seen and heard first hand here recently from the Lucas 'Higher Ups'.

I sincerely hope the NJBA keeps itself intact as an Independent Racer's Organization as this whole thing unfolds ... The organization has been a Racer's Organization primarily for open boats for many, many years and I would really hate to see that change to the detriment of open boat racing.

+1 on NJBA being a "racers" organization. With the people in place right now, I don't think NJBA is not going anywhere. As far as Lucas, this transition is gonna take time to get everything sorted out. Their record with other forms of motor sports is pretty good, but things don't happen over night.
My PE boat stayed home only due to budget. Economy wise, things are improving and look forward to our boat being out there regularly. Hopefully, there's a bunch more gonna be out there as well...

Thanks David. I agree with you 100%. Likewise. My PE boat stayed home too, economy, and a few rules that I wouldn't make tech.

Will be in Bako in a few weeks!

Unfortunately these are the boats that draw attention to the sport for the masses. And for TV. Sportsman classes are what make up the majority of the race program IMO.

I don't doubt the NJBA isn't going anywhere, but, I sincerely hope they don't adopt the Lucas Rules which enforce the 7.70 Rule vs. the MPH Rule.

Also, a 'Rumor' I picked up at the track this week (which I throw out as a Rumor that needs to be verified) is that the NJBA is going to cancel the Ming September 25th & 26th and reschedule it at Elsinore on the 17th, 18th & 19th of September to coincide with the newly scheduled Lucas Series race there which replaces the San Diego race that has been cancelled. What I've been told (Again, I consider it a Rumor until Confirmed) is that Lucas will pay NJBA a small 5 figure $ amount, setup the track themselves, provide the Lucas Safety Crew (theirs, not the NJBA's), Conduct the Race with their own personel and the Lucas Rules will be the ones used ... i.e., everything including the 7.70 Rule.

Can anyone confirm this or, say for a fact that it's a bunch of B.S.? Just curious as the Sept. 25th & 26th dates were ones we were looking out to maybe come back out to the NJBA. No biggey to me either way as if the 25th & 26th are cancelled, there are two more Ming Races we might make ... just would like to know for planning purposes.

Race has been 'Declared' due to wind ...

Winners decided on times and speed thru rounds run ..... Prize Money distributed accordingly .......

Other than 'Problem Child' being declared the winner over 'Toxic Rocket' in TFH, I really can't say. Bp would be the best to ask when he gets home from here. You might also want to call him and ask his opinion of how the Lucas people managed the race so you can get an idea of what you might expect if NJBA does Elsinore with them.
