Default Main Bearing Cap Straps with ARP studs?

I need some advice on main cap stapping on a BBO.

The supplier say that I should machine the #2,3 and 4 main caps .5"(inches).

My question is, there is very little matal left after taking the .5" of and doesn't that weaken the cap.

Is it worth the extra $, I already have the ARP stud kit and straps.

One of my BBF's has a billet strap kit on it and we just milled the caps untill they were flat, you want to take off as little as possible.
    Nice!

    Thanks for the reply.

The problem is I am running a 8qt Moroso oil pan and to fit the straps on the main caps without touching the pan I have to take of 0.5000" of an inch.

I am at a loss, I need the extra strenght on the main caps, I just don't know, I have spent a lot of $ on the motor.
