    Default Boat started itself up.....

So I was getting the boat ready for Memorial Weekend, and left to go make up new trailer safety chains. I hear the boat start up. Hmmmm, OK? I walk back to the running boat, and no one's around. I turn the boat off sure that my wife was being silly with me. About 3 minutes later the same thing happens.....boat starts up and no one's around when I get there. I kill the boat and take the key out of the ignition and stash under the seat cushion.

I leave and go to my in-laws to press my s-hooks on my chains. A short while later my wife calls me frantic, saying the boats running in the yard and the keys not in the switch. What!?!? My wife gets the key and manages to kill the boat, and I run back home. The boat starts itself up and kills itself 9 times before I could get back. As I pull up, my wife is crazy looking, and trying to get at the battery....LOL

Long story short, my ignition switch went out in a very strange way. With the key "out", the boat would start and idle, and then shut itself off at random. Lucky Lucky, this could have been a real bad day.

Yes sir. The switch is original on my '82 Cimmaron, but tight. Never had one fail like this, but yes was real lucky. If the wife would have been gone and it decided to keep running, I would have come home much later to a possible disaster. I guess the old boat is excited about getting to the lake too...... LOL

With some "embellishment" and some creapy sound effects this could be a good Campfire ghost story

ps I've had a few boats that wouldn't shut off ....

I'll definitely work on it for Memorial Weekend. At first thought it reminded me of an old Benny Hill skit, with the crazy sax music, and me and my wife running back and forth......LOL

im done with "key'ed" switches. I converted my boat to a push button switch. I had weird key issues as well.

all the fingers and all the toes up today was i good day. crazy how the starter shut off and the fact that the ing was going on and off at the same time that is some serious luck to get every thing perfect like that. good thing we dont run no sowing machine motor like a bay liner we at least hear if it is running

heard a couple of stories like this on boats with severe corrosion on the starter. Heard about one that started while towing the boat home, ended up burning up and catching on fire.....
