By no means a stereo expert , but many of my customer have systems in thier boats and get by with OEM type Prestolite and GM style marine alternators , I do recommend you have a dual battery system however , the "redundancy" might save a delima when after kickin it in a cove listening to your tunes you find your battery dead Tom

any alt will work you just need the brackets. i have a chrome 300 amp for sale in the spam section. built by Iraggi alternater. give it a look. it will keep those batteries well charged

run a Optima Yellow top deep cycle battery for your stereo

I have had good luck with GM 1 wire alternators, summit, jegs......

if you were to choose to pay for the optima brand....the blue topwould be a better marine application. it has better deep cycle reserve. athough the best batteries in the world are not going to fix the demands of a multiple amp situation. if amplifier "a" pulls 75amps of current and amplifier "b" pulls 60amps of current and stereo pulls 10amps.....that is almost 200 right there. now add the engine electronics and instrament lights etc etc. now put in that "high amperage" alt, what is it? 105 maybe 160 from jegs etc. go big or dont bother. if your ignition system is amplifying voltage what would more voltage mean...a more conistant hotter spark. so if your cheap ass alt is barely keeping your batteries maintained to 12 maybe 12.8 while running your stereo? a stronger alt would keep your voltage at 13-14.9. with the stereo blasting. physics doesnt lie. and a stereo should not be run with the engine off. low voltage can kill a stereo system. and the current spike an alternater has to endure to bring a dead batterie back to life will kill an alternater.

I agree the blue top is a better starter but the Yellow will last longer for your stereo any day of the week

I figure if the guy is going with a serious system then he will run battery for the motor and one for the stereo.

I have setup many systems over the years and unfortunatly have the hearing loss to prove it I have seen a Optima yellow top battery help out the stereo enough to not need a capacitor for the amps, (if you want to save a couple $$)

Plus with there spiral cell design they work great in the boats

    Unless it was numbers matching

The alternator is very important by all means, I have used the GM one wire from any local auto store and it works great.

Besides on a jet boat you are not running as many accesories as you would in a car so just the added stereo should be no problem for it

skippers not totally not right 75 amps is a max your not going to pull that all the time, a good batt and a good alt is a good thing, if your running two amps chances are your stereo does not pull much. a cap will help alot to save the alt and smooth out voltages. what are you planing on doing before every body scares you into spending to much money so tel us what you have now for alt, and bat, and your plans, is it an open or closed engine compartment?

a cap only smoothes out the ripples at lower volumes but really does not do much at "wot" of music. especially with the higher power amp/sub combos. it would be better to do alternater upgrade then spend money on a cap

Wow a lot of different takes on the matter! I wasn't planning on running two amps! I was thinking about a sub in the bow but now maybe not! Just 4 six and a half's and maybe a small amp! I don't have an alternator right now or batteries! I'm knew to the boat! Looks like it was set up for dual batteries however

so you want to run 4 speakers off the deck and some small amp for the sub will be no issue. some of the suggestions where for big systems, just get a good batt and an alt that works 60-80amp would be fine no need for more as for the alt you should be running you did not answerer the question if your running an open or closed engine bay, and remember when sizing the wire most charts think it is in a car with a frame ground so they are not really accounting for the size of the ground. im running two amps one foe the speakers and one for the amp sub not had an issue with the alt. i would suggest if you have an alt gage dump it for volt meter you can keep an eye on things when the motor is off. good luck. and if your planing on hearing it over motor with and open engine compartment you wont with a deck powering them

Umm open compartment! I was sure that I wouldn't hear it over the motor I was just thinking for while the engines off! The dual battery system would be a good idea I think though! Thanks for all the help. I'm really new to this
