get the hin and run it through dmv and make sure thier are no leins against it and see when the last time it was registered. if its been over 5 years or so i think a bill of sale will work, but im not certian.

Does the boat in question have 'AZ' numbers on it? If I'm not mistaken, in AZ you only need a bill of sale, and they only give you a registration, not a title for a boat. Trailer is another story because we register them through the MVD.

what ever you do make sure it DOES NOT have a lein on it. I am going though it right now and I have to put up a bond for a boat that is 27 years old and the bank is out of business.

So I could register it in az I have an address there but it was registered in ca so think it would still need to know who its registered to?

I went through this when I bought my Shockwave with the trailer. Have the DMV/AAA run the vin#. If no leans print a duplicate title form and bill of sale off the DMV and have the seller sign both of them. Turn them both in and pay the fees.. They will hand you temporary reg and stickers same day.

I would say yes that you could register it in AZ with just a bill of sale, but it sounds like you don't really know who it's currently registered to.....that's gonna be a problem. You'll probably have to do what rIVERtRASH said. I have a buddy that bought a quad from a guy who bought it from someone else, etc. There was no title or bill of sale, he had to do some 'bond' or something, it was kind of a pain in the ass. Hope you're able to find the registered owner to sign something....good luck.

thanks for all the info guys i"m looking into all the options you guys sudgested. It was also mentioned that maybe i can just register it as a home made vessel but im worried about what fees may be involved with that.

I would expect the worst! It is not always as easy as everyone says. I have been trying to get a title on just a trailer for my Hondo for over 4 months now. Good thing is that you probably wont be on the water right away so you have some time. Love those SWTD's. Good luck with everything.
