    Default 20.5 Carrera Horsepower recommendations

I just dropped my engine at the builders for a tear down. It has unknown internal problems, they are going to call me tomorrow with a diagnosis. The reason for the teardown which is unknown makes no difference to me. I have a 20.5 Carrera open bow with a stock 12JG pump with a A aluminum impeller, ride plate and place diverter. My question: How many horses can I put through the pump without having to spend any money on it. Where is the happy medium so to speak. If you want to know what speeds I am looking for I would like to get into the mid 60's if budget permits. Based on the initial conversation with the builder I can afford 500 horsepower @8.5:1 compression.

    Please enlighten me.

I have a 21 commander with an American turbine and a type impeller the river racer grate and a droop snoot with a diverter and gps says 63 with a stock 454. Runs good all day I would say if your gonna put 500hp I think you will see mid 60's all day. I could be wrong though.

I think there has been a couple threads about this hull before. If I remember correctly it rides real wet and is not very efficient. You might was to search around and see what ya find.

8:5 to 1 compression sounds very low unless you going to add a blower some day.

500 HP should get you in the low 60's, be prepared to spend lots of $$
if you want it to get into the 70's

The gas is questionable on the water around here. I figured 8.5 would burn almost anything without problem.
