Default 1st time at AVI ?

Never been to Avi making a trip in two weeks. What can I expect, from what I here the water is cold (thats great) but doesn't come up it 11ish not so good, anything else I need to worry about. Was planning on staying at AVI launching there also, at night will the boat be safe? My wife has never been down to Topoc (gorge) how far is it and would you go in a 20ft jet. It been a long time since i've been up there, I usely stay down south, changing it up abit. Anyone going that weeekend. Thanks for any info

I do it all the time. The water is low in the morning but your fine in a jet. stay on the AZ side for the most part and watch the water color. Its more shallow going up river towards laughlin, but you can still go all the way.
I have never had any problems with theft there but I wouldnt leave anything too valuable. You never know about those Bullhead tweekers

From the AVI to the gorge its probably close to 20 miles, but a real nice ride. My favorite stretch other than Willow Beach to Hoover

Your boat will totally be safe. They have security cruzing around and I believe they close the gate to the boat parking area at 10 o'clock pm.
One thing that really sucks is there launch ramp. It goes right into the current (you may need a hand getting back on the trailer, feel it out).
The drive down is awsome! Topoc has gas docks so you should be fine.

    Good luck!

    I'll be there 29,30,31 July & 1 Aug. Leaving on 2 Aug.
Your boat will be safe in the parking lot.

From my experience the last couple of years , you can expect to be taco'd.

Taco'd "a person or people that show up with one lake lice and a family of 50 and cram 3 people at a time on it with no disregard to boating rules or ethics. Usualy crap in toilets and throw shit paper in trash cans. Hang out at the boat ramp like its a swimming hole. Have zero insurance on anything they own and dont give two shits less about your property."

( I know I totally stole that and the definition , but it's so true! )

When you pass a sign on the left side that says Willow Valley Marina. Start hugging the left side of the river. Huge rock bar. That's really the only one to look out for.. Well the one in front of Circle Beach can get gnarly too. Once you get to the the river front houses your Golden (especially in a jet). On your way back in the late afternoon you have nothing to worry about. I hear the water has been deep up there lately anyhow.

The launch ramp at the Avi sucks, but that's pretty much it. I would'nt bother hanging in the Avi Lagoon... go down river and find a better beach with less Sea-Doo renters around.

    x2

i love the hotel and beach.....but there is a ton of wave runners in and out of that cove all day....stay on your toes, most of them have tunnel vision and a happy throttle finger.

the above mentioned people who show up put a damper on the day, but overall, i havent had a bad trip to the avi.

Thanks for the replys, I like the Taco remark so true!!! With talking with some people planning on going down to Jack Smith launching early like 7-8 down to Topock for breakfast down threw the Gorge hit the sand bar, back to Jack and pull the boat out befor 12 trailer up to AVI launch there for the rest of the day. A lot of work but that way the wife can see the Gorge.

By the time you launch drive to Jack Smith and launch you could have been there in the boat. Its only a 15-20 minute boat ride from Avi to the Needles Bridge. The water will be deep enough at 8am I've done it plenty of times. You most likely will need to gas up in Topac on the way back if your taking the boat in your avatar. I wouldn't worry about the shallow water, the choppy water from Park Moabi to the gorge then on down to the sand bar is gonna be the killer. Probably not so much in the am but defiantly on the ride back.

Isn't it a 5mph zone through the gorge now a days?
