Default Help With Kurtis Jet Boat Info Please!

    Howdy,

I am looking at picking up an 18' 1978 Kurtis Jet Boat. Unfortunately, no matter how hard I look and search and Google, I cannot find any information on them. Hopefully, some of you fellow Hot Boaters can shed some light on my following questions...

    • Do they have a FAST hull?
    • What is the ride quality like?
    • Are they heavy?
    • Is it a good platform to modify?
    • What modifications do they like?
    • What is the overal quality of this hull?
    • Is it worth getting one?
    • Should I stay far away from them?
    • Do you have any pictures you can post?
    What I do know...
    • Hull and gell looks very good and fairly clean in the pics.
    • Full stringers
    • Rebuilt 468 Mild-Stock, 2 yrs old
    • Engine and area looks Very Very Clean
    • Rebuilt Berkely with electric Jetovator, 2 yrs old
    • Interior is very good condition with no rips or cracks
    • Carpet looks good
    • Lots of metal flake
    • Trailor looks good, little paint flakage on the fenders
    • Overall package looks "very good" so far
Any information would be greatly appreciated as I will be looking to pick it up shortly (or not depending on your info).

    Thanks!

He's got a better camera than you have a monitor

    Rebuilt 468 Mild-Stock, 2 yrs old
See my "fresh motor" thread in the dyno section..LOL

A pressure washer can do that

    • Rebuilt Berkely with electric Jetovator, 2 yrs old
he hit it with a rattle can 2 years ago

    Lots of metal flake
from that transom picture, it looks like the metalflake has more texture than your driveway. Doesn't look good from here. Additionally, judgeing from the lack of paint on the rudder, it's been dragged through the sand. Expect the wear ring and impeller to need replacement.

I'm gonna say this...DON'T BUY A BOAT FOR MORE THAN $1000 UNLESS YOU CAN LAKE TEST IT!!!!. $1000 boats are to be looked at as possibly rebuildable cores...not as lake ready boats, although it seems I've had considerably better luck with $1000 boats being lake ready than I have with high priced boats being lake ready ...but that's irrelivant.

You'd be better off with that Rodgers down here that I looked at for you...although you can't lake test it cuz the steering rack is gone. He dropped the price $500 buy the way. I'm gonna wait another month and lowball him 3 times that and see what happens.

Hey Pat! Thanks for chiming in. You make me afraid to trust anyone anymore.

What happened with that Rogers? I thought you were going to make an offer on it?

Got it! In the mean time, you are out of a boat and summer is going to end. You need something NOW!

*UPDATE - Read your "Fresh Motor" thread. Now I know where you are coming from. Sorry to hear about the engine, but damn that hull is BADDASS!

If you expect the worst you can never be disappointed.

As far as the Rogers, I made him a low offer, he said no...said he had people lined up to buy it. OK..fine. 2 weeks later, all those people must have disappeared. I'm gonna wait longer...I don't think it's going any where, and the guy is hurtin for money.
