Default Want more speed, What next??

I finally got my engine squared away and the boat is running smooth. I have a witchcraft hull 18ft, and an olds 455. A Jacuzzi WJ with an energizer and A impeller. I get it up to 5100 rpm and GPS a speed of 62mph. I am thinking a droop is the next best thing to do???? I also seem to get some slight cavitation at speed in the light choppy water and tach will maintain 5200 rpm (loader... inducer???)

    Any ideas?? Thanks!

You probably already know this but from what I've read you don't want to spin that olds much higher than that anyways. They don't like high rpm. I would say get a place diverter but you have a Jacuzzi so I don't know if there is an equivalent. It would save you a lot of hastle to sell What you got to someone who just wants to cruise. Then buy a decent Hull that already has a bbf and a Berk with a place diverter. Shouldn't be too hard to do around 80 with 500hp and correct set up. You can fall off a log and get 500hp with bbf stock crank and rods ported dove heads single plane high rise intake and 950 Holley forged pistons 10:1 compression flat hydraulic cam with about [email protected] and .580 lift, S
screw in studs and some scorpion full rollers. Run pump gas all day. Relatively cheap and much more durable than the olds.

Actually pretty respectable as it is now , just curious where the fuel tank/s is and do you currently have a diverter? Tom

Yeah, I have a diverter and the tank is in the front. The tank is beat and I am ready for a new one.

No way, the olds 455 rocks!

You are pushing your limits with that Olds. Enjoy, but don't hold it at that RPM for long periods of time. It gets real expensive.

Oiling wise it is set up good, as well as the mains being strapped. Any ideas at getting it up to 70mph. Could I get the same speed out of an AA impeller and reduce the rpm's??

Probably not. Do you have a dyno sheet for us to look at? Then we could tell you for sure.

    Don't have a dyno sheet...

I suppose my more direct question is, will a droop be worth it, or a loader grate?
