    Default Baker 19 Tunnel Jet

I bought an '85 Baker 19' tunnel jet last spring. I am in the process of restoring it and installing an LS1 and should have it on the water around November.

I raced an 18' Rogers bubble deck in the late 70's in Comp Jet class in Region 18. I am just now returning to boating.

I have an interest in towing a ski racer or maybe racing Comp Jet again... Not sure this boat would tech for Comp Jet though due to the stringer issue.

    Some questions please:

I have not seen anything on this forum about Baker Custom boats. How do they handle and how do they turn?

This boat is named 'One Fat Rat'. Anyone know the history of this boat. The dash has an inscription; Custom made for 'Al'.

How do I make contact with anyone in the ski racing sport?

I'm not one to change the name of a boat, but it does not have a fat rat in it anymore. The verdict is still out as to how to handle the boat name.

This is my first post on this forum. I have not been able to post due to problems with the site. I just downloaded Google Chrome and this my first attempt to see if it works...

    Nasty Toys,
Thanks for the info and history on the boat... The colors were quite oxidized when I got it but I spent a lot of time buffing them out and they look great now... I figured the boat was a bit heavy, but that is not all bad. It has held up really well because of the added weight and structure. Only a few minor gel cracks and I am impressed that the keel has not been sanded off by beaching it... Looks like it has been an a buoy most of its life near the beach. With the all aluminum LS1 engine it will be a couple hundred pounds lighter than it was with the BBC.
I would love to see some of your pictures of the boat... Please post them up. I would post some myself but I am heading out tomorrow on a 3 week vacation to Yellowstone.
My plan is to sort out the boat with a 480hp LS1 and then install a 700hp 454 LS stroker motor I have waiting in the wings. Do you have any info on the speeds you got with the big block? How much HP were you running. I'd like to see if I can get it up to 100mph.
Where are you located? I would like to learn more about your time with the boat. I'm about 80 miles from Blythe and not much farther to Parker and Havasu where I plan to do some boating. I also plan to hit the lakes around Phoenix. Can't wait to get it wet...
