My engine builder recommends Torco TR-1 20/50 racing oil, but is it hard to find around me and a about $8 a quart.

I use Rotella 15-w40 and Lucas oil stabilizer.
It's the only oil I have tried that does not burn off, and stays clean for a few trips.
It's overkill, but my 460 loves the stuff.

Valvoline Racing 20-50 or Kendall 20-50 is what my engine builder recommended.

I thought Royal Purple was the new concensus for best motor oil? That or Valvoline are what I use pending on the application.

It is if your watching horsepower tv, Gearz, Trucks, extreme 4x4, etc.. I havnt used it in a boat.

I didnt like the way valvoline VR1 felt/looked after a short time in my motor. I just switched to mobile1 15-40 and so far so good, it still looks like new oil, but i only have one hard trip on it.

We've had great luck w/ Red Line 5w/30. I got away from Royal Purple when they took a fair amount of zinc out of their oil in order to make it pass smog laws. You can also buy zinc additives and add it to your oil changes as added protection.

Re: Royal Purple: All the engine builders I know use it, race it, and recommend it so I jumped on the band wagon. Haven't taken my motor apart so can't say much at this point, but I still have oil pressure.
