Default Anybody use MSD pro billet dist on Tunnel Ram Olds?

I'm swaping my points dist. for MSD pro billet on my 455 Olds w/Tunnel Ram. Anybody done this before and no what combo of springs give proper timing advance curve? or any advice on initial and total timing?

    THANKS!
    -Nick

Yeah it has a Weiand tunnel ram, running a total of 36* of timing, have the 25* spacer set up in the dizzy, with 11* initial and the softest springs so the timing is all in by like 2500 RPM or so.

That being said an Olds motor may require different settings, I'd give Tom at JBP a call and I am sure he can point you in the right direction.

I run a stock 455 wit 2 660's on a weiand t/r and an HEI....It's v-drive with a lot of gear, so i need a low idle for no wake zones....I run total timing @38* with a 50/50 pump gas mix...it will make a little more power at 43* on straight 91 octane. It will run best locked out @38 but it will do that timing stall thing that is hard on starters.

It will idle @1k in neutral and 800 in gear on both carbs and 650 on one carb..last trip out i put a cleaver prop on...seemed to hook better than my last prop and got some guff over my no wake speed...it will idle @600 with no problems.

With your deal..if you are running stock compression i.e. 10-1...lock it out and try it at 36* and see where that gets you...'curve is for cars' olds will give best idle and response with the most base timing you can run.

BTW..don't know how big the msd dizzy is but hei doesn't exactly fit...
had to grind a little off the manifold on the back and file the hold downs on the cap a little.....seems stock hei is more that enough
    dizzy....autolite plugs @.045 and taylor wires...never had a problem

Pretty sure the HEI wont fit with the tunnel ram on an Olds. I know it wont fit on my SBO/BBO set up.

Thanks for the info! the MSD is about the same size as the points dist., so it will fit. right now the boat wont idle(or stay running) under 1000rpm

I run the smallest bushing and the lightest springs with about 10 deg initial and shoot for 36 total. Check R.O.P. for the correct measurements on the balancer to check for total timing.
