    Default tight steering, problem...

Woke up the boat from winter hibernation. Found the steering very tight, had to muscle with 2 hands to drive the boat. Seems like there is a inch or 2 of play before you feel resistence. I lubed the zerk on the steering just above the pump outside the boat before we went out. Do I need a new rack or steering cable? Boat is a '90 20.5 carrera elite.
    Thanks.

That happened to my boat. Ended up needing a new cable, but since they don't make that same kind anymore, I had to get a new tele-flex rack and cable.
On a different note, just pulled the boat out of storage and the throttle cable is sticking. Hopefully some lube will take care of it.

I think you are in new cable land.

Teleflex makes adapters too. Some time you can get by by removing the zerk fitting and forcing a penetrating oil into the hole. I did the Kachina like that and left it for the week adding a little oil every day. Come Sunday it was like New. Just in case the cable is a few years old.
