    Default Jet Boat Basics!

Ok, so I'm looking at the different pumps, Berkely Dominator, Panther and really just brings up a few questions.

    1. Is one better than another at one thing or another?

    2. What is a Jet O Vator? Someone said they had a berkley pump WITH a jetovator I thought jetovator was a pump.
    3. What can be done to a jet to make it more effective on a bigger boat 21-23FT.
    4. Is there a way to make a Jet boat easier to maneuver off throttle? Or is Throttle turning the only real option?

Not to seem anti Jet but really it looks like for speed IO is just lb for lb more effective and why all the gas pedals? Is there a Neutral without shutting the motor down?

Small blocks: Ok this is past basics but to my logic it seems the limiting factor on a jet isn't so much the hosepower as it is the RPM range at which you can spin the pump. So a small block 350 turning 550hp at 7,500 rpm would outrun a big block running 700 at 5500 rpm.

How much do YOU KNOW!! Tim tabs I get ride plates i'm not understanding and If you bought a daycruiser. How would you make it a sleeper!?

Berkley and Dominator are good pumps that can accept more hardware droops, snoots etc.
Jetovator is Berkley's brand of a place diverter! WT

Mixed flow pumps - Berk, AT, Dom, aggressor, legend etc
Axial flow pumps- jacuzzi yj. panther, etc

Jetovator is old up down nozzel for controlling attitude and lift. Place diverters are better design and are more common

Bigger/ heavier jetboats - require bigger impeller to get moving. Stay on plane at lower RPM's and be fuel effiecent as much as jet can be

Higher Horsepower Jets also require bigger impellers to keep RPM's in the range the motor builds power...7k etc. You want your Impeller to match your hp, tq curve of motor so it will allow motor to spin to prime RPM

Turning under accel is only real option, they do manuver at idle, On bigger cruiser a turn fin on pump might help. Use search on here, a lot of this has been covered in details in past.

Ok, any search suggestions? not a bad idea for a mod to make a sticky of basic lingo, facts and diagrams and then slowly add to it over years appreciate the response I know it's a pita when some idiot asks questions he should already know. That does answer a question I had which is whether or not you have multiple options on impellers as well. Which if there is it seems a jet should be just as good as a IO. Does the pitch change or just the size of the impeller or both?

yes you can get different size impellers...

AA, A, AB, B, BC, C etc (bigger to smaller)

Search words: impeller, wear ring, place diverter, wedge, shoe, rideplate, intake, droop, intake, hook, bottom work, inducer, pop off, jetaway

These are just a few search words. If you use them and read threads you will pickup quick.

I've suggested this before and still think it is a great idea. Kinda hard to get a sticky around here though.

Here is a pump ID thread I started a while back.
