    Default weed-rope cutter

I have been told that Berkeley had an accessory that installed on the impeller shaft that cuts grass that would go into the suction piece. I went to green lake A.K.A. Clear lake and spent hours with a fillet knife cutting grass out of my intake one weekend. I also sucked up a ski rope and I had to be towed to the ramp and cut the rope off the shaft with the same knife. Does anyone know where I can find one of those cutter blades?

I have been around jet boats for 30+ years and have never heard of this accessory. I think someone is yanking your chain. But I'm open minded, if you run across this thing post it up. I could use a good laugh

In some of the old suction pieces there is a piece in the casting that is suppsodly there to help get stuff off the shaft.

Like Chris said... yes/no/kinda. The piece replaced the suction housing had hole cover and had a vertical piece cast with the hole cover that extended down close to the shaft in front of the impeller. This "knife" was sharp on the front edge and was supposed to precut moss or other water vegatation as it entered the impeller. I guess I have only seen one or two in 30+ years.

Considering how a jet drive "processs" just about any floating or partially submerged crap in its path in a great number of instances disassembly reveals that what is visably wrapped around the pump shaft on the suction side is likley in the bowl on the exit side as well , My heart goes out to you folks that have lakes infested with Hydrilla etc Tom

This is why the majority of "good used" jet drives are buildable cores

A friend told me to get an old carpet knife, sharpen it, and leave it in my boat. Haven't tried it yet, nor have I needed to. Luckily the only thing my boat has sucked up has been some NorCal delta weeds in which somehow passengers have jumped in a pulled for me!

The Military in Nam used a 2 blade weldment type sharpened cutter which I have seen a picture of 15 years ago... much like a pre-load impeller for cutting grasses. Did it work: don't know, but why not!
