    Default Just Venting.....

Besides the wife, me saying the word "boat" to her and the fact of it being a Bit*h to get my intake out of the hull for the jet drive.........

What the hell is that stuff??? I was about ready to call NASA to find out, That's the toughest shyt I have ever come across. Thought it was what they make the reentry tiles on the space shuttle with. Having just as hard time cleaning it so my buddy can weld new fins on! Is it some kind of double secret probation epoxy? Stronger than the bolts that were holding it on! Spent most of the day doing so! Sorry, toasty and posting....... My bad.

Add a little heat to the intake, it will help it come loose. Floor jack-up the intake and heat the intake with a propane torch.

2nd on the heat. I used an aceteline torch and heated the heckouto it. aAs soon as the epoxy starts to bubble just gradually start putting pressure with the floor jack. Be patient with the jack and keep the intake hot and it will just ease out. The nice thing about aluminum is that the whole intake will heat up pretty evenly.

    Thanks guys-

Already got it out of the hull, 1.5 cans of map gas later...... getting off the rest of the intake is proving to be just as challenging so my buddy can weld on it! What is it??? :O

Sea going epoxy. You can use a high speed and sanding disks to clean up the intake.

    Money-

My 4.5" right angle grinder w/ a sanding disk on it or will a coarse wire brush do it without leaning on the aluminum to hard to clean it up?

    Thanks in advance.

Just a pointer. Take it how you like. Next time ask first. There is a lot of knowledge on this forum and most are always willing to give advice. But sometimes its better to find out the hard way. I commend you for doing it yourself. I would not. Good job!

Thanks for the input guys! Orange- Thanks for the pic, says a thousand words! Dom- You are right, asking questions is very sound advice as well as using the search! I'm with you, If and when I would ever have to do it again, I'll leave it to someone who knows!
