Ouch!!!! That stings a little QuickJet.hand But yes I agree if you ditch the Ford you can get much more speed and HP out of a Chevy for far less money. But if you want to stick with the Ford do some head work or buy a set of aluminum heads and slap them on it. The downfall of the Ford is the top end, they do not breathe. I would also suggest adding an 850 cfm carb at least. That will wake your motor up like you can't immagine. That should run you anywhere from $2500 to about $4000. Then I would suggest a little pump work; nice rebuild and blueprint should do wonders. this should cost you from a grand up depending on how crazy you want to get.
These are Chevy guy and don't know what they are talking about with a 460 Ford. Cost will be about the same with all the after market parts available these days. You can build a lot of power with a 460 Ford. Check out www.460ford.com for different builds and also Paul Kane ( LakesOnly) on the boards here. If you want a comparison on Ford vs Chevy, go to Paul's web site www.highflowdynamics.com

You are right.....I've beaten so many BBF with a BBC that I've never stoped to wonder as to why. Maybe the guys with the Fords that I was racing didn't know how to build them. That's the good thing about a Chevy, you don't have to use any exotic parts to get to 85 mph. Stock stuff works fine (even the pump) especially in a Bahner.
If I was this guy, I'd buy the 454 Chevy off Jangles in the Spam section, cam it, ram it and go run the #. Of course he can keep the Ford and spend thousands more but that's the nice thing about boating, not everyone has to do the same old boaring thing.
I say keep it Ford powered. That's one less boat I'll ever have to worry about losing to..........devil
I too am going threw the same deal right now and LAKESONLY is the man he knows his stuff and if ya have the money talk to him and get ur stuff to him. And the chevy guys are bustin ur chops a bit lol, but its about the same price to up grade no matter if its a chevy or a ford. Yes theres a ton my chevy parts out there but just the same when it comes to price. post some pics man..and good luck..
There is always somebody faster. Might even be a Ford. Enough said.
Flagstaffjets,
There is a lot you can do to a 460 Ford to build power depending on your budget to get you to the 80's +. As said earlier, pump work may be needed, shoe & ride plate and bottom work will help get you there.
Forget the Ford/Chevy/Olds debate; they can all be made to run good.
We all know how critical and important weight is to a boats total performance.
Figure which engine puts out the most HP/Lb, and use it.
There's one that always comes out on top.
Most of us know which one it is!
