    Default Want bigger Roost

I have a 78 bahner with a 12 JC pump. Stock pump with new Place Diverter. Wanting a bigger roost. Whats my opions or whats the trick. Do i Change the bowl and you a drop snoot and a wedge or a rooster booster? Or is there another way without breaking down the pump? I am very mechanical minded and can handle taking it apart but just want to know what to expect or would it be a mistake to break it down without rebuilding and what awould i need?
    thanks

Best route is to get a split bowl and maybe a droop, try it again if thats not enough you can play with wedges, that should get you a big enough roost. If your one of those guys that has to have a giant roost (why?) then you have to modify the place diverter. Try and avoid that one.

Stevo, we're sort of neighbors...you should come down to Texas sometime and hang with us in Lake Lavon.

I have a similiar set up as yours and without spending a lot of money, I was able to get a larger roost by making a few modifications. I'm not real technical with all the component names so bear with me.

In order to get the diverter to go higher, we had to use a grinder and grind away a small amount of material on the mount where your diverter cable is attached to. Then you'd adjust your cable to allow for more movement of the diverter.I was able to increase the size of my roost. Here is a You Tube link to show you.

Thanks to all you guys that replyed, I just want it bigger because i enjoy cruisin around the lake and showin off... Havin fun is what its about to me since i dont compete or anything. I just want it bigger.

How involved is changing the bowl? Do i replace anything like gaskets or somithing? I See how the bowl comes apart but what is involved in swapping the bowl ? What do i need other than the bowl and droop?

Sorry for all the questions.. I build engines and Drag cars but never been in a pump.

Heres a pic of what she can do right now. Ive seen worse

Hell ya.. That would be great if you get time..

When i unbolt the bowl does the bowl just slide off the shaft leaving the shaft and impeller

behind of does the shaft need removed.

Any bushing of shims to worry about.

    THANKS for all the help

I know TX19 has a really nice berkeley split bowl for sale, might shoot him a PM, I think hes got a droop too. Not sure. Adding the bowl and droop is very simple, 2 gaskets and thats pretty much it. We could guide you through it. You would fur sure have a much differnt handling boat with a droop so make sure a droop is a good call for your application. What hull is it? What kinda HP?
