    Default NJBA March 2011 recap

I need to thank quite a few people for helping out this weekend:
Hustler and HBjet-unbelievably good pit crew right there. I signed up for three classes because I wanted to get a lot of seat time and these guys didn't stop working until the sun went down. Thanks!

    Riverdave-dude thanks for the help.
The Vulgersons-thanks for the lash caps and laughs.
CP Pistons/Carillo thanks for the support and bullet proof parts.
C&J Engineering-John Moreland best carb tuner ever and quick, too. turned my carbs around in three days. thanks!
Paul Pfaff Racing Engines-thanks for the awesome machine work.
Rockett Racing Fuel-what can I say? the stuff works.
    B1 Racing-for the support

Our weekend started off with a bang when a rocker arm broke in half while we were warming the engine up in the pits for round one of qualifying. I had a spare but we lost the lash cap and luckily Tom Fulkerson gave me another one. We barely made it in time for our first qualifying pass and the boat ripped off a 7.58 at 146 mph. The mph is bogus but since I read about it on the internet already it has to be true. Besides I have the timeslip to prove it.

Since we were behind timewise from the rocker arm incident we never got a chance to eat, drink, or poop because we kept having to run back to the pits, service the boat and then go run again. I think we ended up qualified third in Unblown Fuel Jet with a 7.64 and third in the 8 second bracket with an 8.08.

On Sunday the driver was a pile and i lost in round one of Super Eliminator after hitting the popoff button 200 feet into the run. Then I lost in Unblown Fuel Jet when the motor shut off on me at the start against Bob Fry. This was my best pass of the weekend though. The boat ran 7.57 at 138 mph. My 2.5 second reaction time didn't help. Bob blew the scoop off his motor and beat me like a rented mule with an 8.01 pass.

So that left the 8 second bracket. I was lost on the tree and couldn't cut a good light to save my life. I think i red lit on every pass of the weekend up until this point. But i got a few gifts and had nobody to race in round 1 or round two after both of the boats I was supposed to race broke. I beat Gary Davis in rnd 3 with a mediocre light and an 8.11. In the final I had Tony Leaman, who is pretty much the man when it comes to running 8.0s and cutting 0 lights. I finally cut an 0 light against him and dumped the gas at the finish line when I realized he wasn't next to me. I think his starter broke or something.

anyway. thanks to everyone that came by the pit and had a beer with me.

Just wanted to thank NJBA for a great weekend of Racing. This was my first time. Definitely looking forward to racing again. Total class act from the NJBA Organization to all the racers and volunteers. Met a great group of people and racers from all over. A few more thanks: cs19 (Chris, for helping get the boat ready, and advice on the rope and lights), Ken at Lifeline, for taking care of all my safety Equip in record time. Chuck767 and son for there help, my cousin and son for there hard work. Jack MPD for some hints and advice for the next race and taxes. The guys and kids at the in and out ramp, for doing something like being in the water all day wet and cold, doing what ever they can. Hope we all took care of them. Joe, for taking care of the new guys. Boat ran great all weekend, The driver was kind of a basket case.
    Sorry if I missed anyone.

Hey Bob, thanks for the race sunday, you tree'd my ass, took me all weekend to see what it takes to get it right, and I still dont really think I figured it out! LOL
Thanks to- Finnegan at Wrong Way Racing for taking the time out of your busy schedule to help get my boat down the track safe and sound, all be it not the fastest thing out there, but I had, by far the most fun out of all you guys, I giggled down the track every single time I went!
John Mills for the Pop off valve and Pump rebuild! I am a very satisfied customer and I dont care who you are, you can benefit from the Mills valve, I know they all relieve inlet pressure, but in my dealings with manufacturers, John is a class act and offers a hell of a product!! Thank you!
Jason Griffith with Dale Bros. Brewery for quenching our thirst friday, saturday and sunday (After the race was done of corse)
Donny Peterson from Peterson Performance, you have done more that you have ever needed to for me and my projects, you've never gone back on your word or work performed for me or my family, you are a great person and IMO the best at what you do! You build a nice stout Engine too! Proud to call you a friend to My girls and I!
Kjell Adams, you helped me out in a pinch and I appreciate it bud!
Jack McClure from MPD, Thanks for the impeller work, the boat hooked up harder than ever before, thanks for your time!
Big Jim Burrow, Jimmy Burrow, Uncle Paul, Bubba & June (cripple midget racing) Brad Parrak (I can never remember how to spell your last name!LOL) Jason (MohawkBoy) thanks for spitting Elsinore shit mud all over me, my pick up and boat!
my wife Juzzy, daughter Booger for putting up with me the last few weeks before the race, and put me at ease just before the water Every Single Pass, I cant thank you enough!!!
The support from friends and family on shore was overwhelming you guys all kick ass!
    last but not least...
NJBA is one hell of an organization and I am proud to be a part of it!
Thanks for making my first (Not last) race one of the highlights of my life!
    until next time!
