I need to thank quite a few people for helping out this weekend:
Hustler and HBjet-unbelievably good pit crew right there. I signed up for three classes because I wanted to get a lot of seat time and these guys didn't stop working until the sun went down. Thanks!
Riverdave-dude thanks for the help.
The Vulgersons-thanks for the lash caps and laughs.
CP Pistons/Carillo thanks for the support and bullet proof parts.
C&J Engineering-John Moreland best carb tuner ever and quick, too. turned my carbs around in three days. thanks!
Paul Pfaff Racing Engines-thanks for the awesome machine work.
Rockett Racing Fuel-what can I say? the stuff works.
B1 Racing-for the support
Our weekend started off with a bang when a rocker arm broke in half while we were warming the engine up in the pits for round one of qualifying. I had a spare but we lost the lash cap and luckily Tom Fulkerson gave me another one. We barely made it in time for our first qualifying pass and the boat ripped off a 7.58 at 146 mph. The mph is bogus but since I read about it on the internet already it has to be true. Besides I have the timeslip to prove it.
Since we were behind timewise from the rocker arm incident we never got a chance to eat, drink, or poop because we kept having to run back to the pits, service the boat and then go run again. I think we ended up qualified third in Unblown Fuel Jet with a 7.64 and third in the 8 second bracket with an 8.08.
On Sunday the driver was a pile and i lost in round one of Super Eliminator after hitting the popoff button 200 feet into the run. Then I lost in Unblown Fuel Jet when the motor shut off on me at the start against Bob Fry. This was my best pass of the weekend though. The boat ran 7.57 at 138 mph. My 2.5 second reaction time didn't help. Bob blew the scoop off his motor and beat me like a rented mule with an 8.01 pass.
So that left the 8 second bracket. I was lost on the tree and couldn't cut a good light to save my life. I think i red lit on every pass of the weekend up until this point. But i got a few gifts and had nobody to race in round 1 or round two after both of the boats I was supposed to race broke. I beat Gary Davis in rnd 3 with a mediocre light and an 8.11. In the final I had Tony Leaman, who is pretty much the man when it comes to running 8.0s and cutting 0 lights. I finally cut an 0 light against him and dumped the gas at the finish line when I realized he wasn't next to me. I think his starter broke or something.
anyway. thanks to everyone that came by the pit and had a beer with me.
