Talking What type of jet pump is best for 19-21'

new here and dont know much about jet pumps. i currently have a 74' sleek craft (what i think is a rebel)? i have a stout mondello olds 455 and a jucuzzi j series pump. it seems like i have to run arount 1000 rpm more than my buddy to keep up. he has a berkly in a cheeta 17-18 i think. i have run this thing for 6 years and has been flawless. just not fast at all lol! looking to step up to somthing like a 19' spectra or eliminator with cheverolet power. my q is what does everyone think is the best pump for cruzing and top speed? any feed back is helpful thanks all!!also love to hear from anyone who has this type of hull.. lookin for a better ride lol. this lil sleek pounds us if there is a lil chop.

The WJ is a good pump, but is not without its limitations in stock form. If you are looking for a new boat though, id find one with a berkeley, american turbine or late model dominator.

As for the performance difference between your and your buddies boats, size of boat, power output and pump condition are all variables that will have an impact on top speed. To give you an example, I had 800 hp in an 18 foot Brendella with a WJ that was top shelf, pulled the motor and put it in a 21 ft v bottom with a tight berk and am seeing 12-15 mph less. Id say my WJ was a nicer pump overall but my berk is by no means a mess.

What RPM are you getting at full throttle? What Impeller are you running?

    Default pump

if you buy something new, go with a diff pump. on the sleekcraft rebel, remember they are not light boats, and the olds is not a top performer either. i grew up with a sleekcraft rebel, 455 olds, and the hot tub pump. it was always best stone stock. turned 5200 rpm and lasted a long time. dont expect to much performance out of that boat. keep the rpms down and keep the olds alive until you find something you want to upgrade to.
