Default 21 carrera elite hull number

I recently bought a 85 carrera elite open bow from a guy in ca and had it shipped to me in illinois. Now that the boat is here I noticed there is no hull id # stamped on the transom. Is there somewhere else that it may be? It dosent look like there was ever anything there. If someone removed and re gelled the transom they did one hell of a job. He received and cashed the check and faxed me a bill of sale with a hull number on march 25 and said he mailed the title that day. After 2 weeks of no title in the mail I called him and he said he went down to the ups store he mailed it from and for whatever reason they hadn't sent it off. Said they refunded his money and sent it off that day, that will be two weeks ago this weds and still no title. So now I have a boat sitting in my garage that I can't find a hull number on and have no title for. Im hoping that the hull number is on it somewhere. I can't imagine he'd give me a bill of sale signed by him for a stolen boat, it would be way too easy to prove where I got it from, not to mention text messsges, emails and pics from him I have to prove where it came from. But either way, I'm starting to get pretty worried that I might have gotten screwed. Anyone know of where else it might be or maybe a legit reason there would be no number? Really dosent look like the transom has been replaced either.

    Default 20.5 Elete

Usually Dennis the owner of Carrera would put a second hull ID number in the Gunnel on the port side gunnel behind the drivers seat. This was a Coast Guard rule to have a second hull ID number somewhere else other than the transom.

Mine is an 89 Elite. It has the vin plate in plain view on the upper right corner of the transom just below the rub rail. I'd be curious why it was removed if yours is not somewhere in plain view back there. Good luck.

I dont think hes a forum member, found the boat on craigslist. But if I do end up getting screwed and not just getting the runaround i will definitely be posting his name adress and phone number. Maybe I'm being naive believing I may not be getting screwed after waiting a month for the title, but I dont want to jump to conclusions and trash his name until I know for sure. I will be checking for a number on the gunnel as soon as I get home, thank you very much for that info Greg. I'll let you guys know what I find. Tried to call him twice today and got no answer and no call back yet. My suspicion is that he either lost the title and has requested a duplicate from the state or that he owed money on it and paid it off when he got my check and is stringing me along while he waits for it to come. When we were arranging things he offered to give the title to the shipping guy when he picked the boat up. I told him to just mail it, thinking it would be here sooner that way. That leads me to beleive he either has or is getting a title.

My last two boats had a duplicate number on the gunnel behind
    The upholstery

all mfg hulls are supposed to have the Hin number in the right upper transom. a second number i dont know about. Id call the state dmv where you bought the boat. give them the cf number off the side and they can give you the correct hin# then call the state trooper in that state and give them the number to make sure that hull is not on the HOT sheet or the REPO sheet . something dont seem right. If this boat passed by me I can legally impound the boat till information is found then the owner is liable for all the fees. if you need any help shoot me a pm ill help you as much as i can

I sent the seller a text message, since he won't answer the phone, telling him that there are no hin numbers and that I was going to contact the police if he didnt call me to figure it out. Of course no response so I called the pd in my county. He ran the serial no on the trailer, came up with nothing, ran the arizona plate on the trailer, which came up not stolen and registered in lake havasu az. So he probaly bought it from the guy in havasu and left the az permanent plate on it. My pd couldn't do anything with the ca registration number so I called the pd in the town he lives in, apple valley ca, and they ran the registration number which came back not stolen and registered to the seller. She couldn't tell me the hin that went with the registration number so I gave her the hin listed on the bill of sale, and it matched. So he has or can get a title for what the boat is registered as, but I still dont know if this hull belongs with that number. So I do feel somewhat better. If I can find a number elsewhere on it that matches what it is registered as I would think the illinois dnr or state police could re tag it. I know they do that on trucks if a new cab is put on due to an accident. I'm really thinking that hes waiting to get the title from a lein holder to so he can send it to me. Wish he would just tell me the truth

IL DNR doesn't ask any questions nor do they bother to look at the hull. Since the information matches up, send in what you have. Some states do not title boats, so having a title isn't always the case.

i'm close enough that i could go knock on his door......... or post a copy of this thread on his door. i'm about 60miles away, but lemme know how i can help.

i'm new to boats so i dunno if it's the same process or not, but i bought a 90s 4runner for the wife a few years back and didn't get a title with it, same deal. i sent a certified/return receipt letter with a transfer of ownership form to the registered title holder's address (lein company) and waited for it to come back. once received back UNOPENED, i took it to the DMV and they cut me a new title.

must be sent RR and must be unopened when you take it to the DMV. maybe that helps.
