    Default Starter Wiring Issues

Friend of mine just bought a damn nice Hallett cruiser, trouble is the starter was wonky, no biggie, ordered a new starter. Pulled the old starter & remote solenoid, replaced both. Now the starter solenoid doesn't kick out, but the motor spins like a top! Took it off, had it bench tested, it works like a champ.

    Any ideas?

If you are talking about a using a Ford remote solenoid be careful. The cheap grey repop ones are wired backwards internally, I have had many that were this way, in fact when I bought my boat the owner previous owner had put one on it and the boat would not start when I went to look at it. I noticed it and proceeded to talk the guy down a grand, the deal was made and before we hooked it up and drove it away I swapped the wires and fired it up. The look on the sellers face was priceless. No biggie to fix just swap the two inner wires(small gauge) and you should be good to go.
