    Default Anyone running the D.U.I. ignition?

    I am considering upgrading my stock single points ignition to the HEI DUI unit. Anyone running that and how do you like it??

    The only DUI ignitions I know about requires you to blow in a tube before the engine will start. Might not be a bad idea if you don't know when to stop.

    I switched over to one last year and couldnt be happier. After dealing with ign problems the year before I just wanted to simplify so I went with a HEI setup, I liked theres for a couple reasons first they make a marine version and second they setup the timing advance curve to your particular setup so it is ready to drop in and go.

    Haven't used one of their marine dists, but I have three of them in use right now. One in my '68 Buick GS with a warmed-over 350. One in my '66 GTO 400 RamAir IV. And one in my '69 Chevy C10 PU with a mild 355. ALL were built with the cam specs/application/transmissions sent to DUI. On the Buick and the Chev I am running their plug wires also.

    Couldn't be happier with the setups. The PU is injected and it works very will with the injection. The other two are carbed. For basically $300, I don't think you could have a better ignition system - especially since it will be "dialed" to your application if you send them the cam specs.

    I put all my MSD stuff aside and put in a HEI, runs great, simple single wire.

    My dad switched from MSD to one of the DUI and is very happy with it. Thanks DAD for all of the MSD parts. LOL

    Im the same boat. I have a 455 But how do you know what to get? You can get one for a $160 up to $500..Do you need one with a Vacuum Advance?On the Sumit web page it looks like they all have a Vacuum Advance.

    You'll want to order FROM DUI. They have an order page that allows you to enter your cam and engine specs. Then, they BUILD what you need. Coil and ALL. Plug wires are extra, but the dist comes ready-to-run in YOUR application. Can't beat it.

    For Olds apps, there is a marine 7000 or 9000. I would say the 7000 would work fine for you, unless your 455 spins OVER 7000 RPM.

    I dont think it would even spin 7000 lol What about replacement parts? Can you get them from auto parts stores or do you have to get them from D.U,I?

    Not that you'll need them, but the module and coil (as far as custom and performance) are exclusive to DUI. However, it's just an HEI. So a STOCK coil, cap, module, and rotor will all work just fine - but not be as "dialed" in as the custom DUI stuff. You can just order more from DUI if you need a new module. But yes, you could easily run a stock HEI module to "get you out of the woods".

    You don't have to use the vacum, just use mechanical.
