What are you looking at seeing? If you just want cool canyons, they are the entire lake.

Cookie jar/Gunsite area have good camping inside canyons, capable of fitting a houseboat if your a competent driver.

Closer to bullfrog it flattens out, so if your starting from their, you'll need to get past hole in the rock.

The drive up to rainbow bridge is awesome, but expect a hike to the bridge, last year it was over a mile.

If your looking for something more specific, let me know, I've spent most my life boating Lake Powell.

**Names are printed on the maps you can get at the marina. ***

Thanks Twitchy , The wife was thinking Shasta and I was more for Powell and after looking at pics online we decided Powell . But I just dont want to go to the worng place and have it just like the local haunts. I was gonna take my 18 footer and was looking for something cool and different. Any places you could recomend would be a good start. And pics if you got any.

Lots of very cool places to go. Navajo canyon is always awesome, antelope canyon is too. Gunsite has good camping and hiking, warm creek bay has good camping and hiking as well. Rock creek canyon has lots of private secluded areas to moor an camp, not as many beaches like the two previously mentioned. Fuel is expensive on the water be prepared to pay over $5 per gallon and they don't have 91 on the lake only 87. Park service has been cutting back the hours of the marina at dangling rope. Antelope marina and wahweap marina are both great for launching. Escalante river arm has some of the best sightseeing in my opinion. Rainbow bridge is cool but is now a tourist trap, I remember as a kid being able to drive under rainbow bridge

I've been going to the lake for the last thirty years and I still feel like I haven't seen a tenth of the lake. It is awesome, you and your wife will be stoked. Shasta is cool too but after you go to powell you'll probably be hooked.

Be careful with your 18'. For the most part you'll be ok. Some of the main channel areas will get interesting with a smaller boat.

We've always gone out of Wahweap Marina because its the easiest to get to for us. Rock Creek Canyon was a favorite for beaches and is close to Rainbow Bridge and other sites. Just warning you, once you go once, your always going to want to go back!

Be very carefull about the weather, storms come in quickly and the lake gets really rough. We almost sunk our 26' daytona trying to beat a storm to get off the lake. If a storm comes in find protection in a canyon and don't make the same mistake I did, specially in an 18' boat.

X2 being careful in an 18' boat, but you will be hooked on the lake, for sights, second to none. Watch for storms, they come up quick, can turn the lake into an angry sea, watch for the large tour boats,(we call them cattle boats) when they are under power they put out huge rollers, stay clear. Got to go to Dangling Rope for soft serve ice cream, It's worth it. Have fun

Anyone can pedal a bicycle, can you pedal a flat?????

As long as I remember they have never sold 91 octane fuel at Dangling rope marina. They might have it at bullfrog, antelope, halls and wahweap, but if you are there you may as well fuel up in town for probably a dollar less per gallon.

My deal holds 50 gallons, plus I bring 6 five gallon jugs. Gives me enough to get most places I want to go for a week on the lake. The houseboat will hold 140 gallons of 87. plus a refueling dock for the jetskis. Works out great for us. We have been using the jetski a lot more in recent years to go on sightseeing trips.

For some reason I thought they sold 91 at wahweap. We always stay at lone rock and fill up in green haven, so I'm probably wrong. Guess you need to bring octane booster if you need 91 on the lake

Yeah, it's kind of a bummer they don't have it up at Dangling Rope. It just means I need to lug a ton a fuel when I go up there. You're probably right, I think they have it at Wahweap at the fuel docks.

Water is on it's way up finally, can't wait to go soon!

Remember that you are at 4000 ft elevation for the lake. You may not need the same octane as you do at sea level. That elevation should be about 2 octane numbers.
