Default What is your thoughts on a rudder?

I was thinking of throwing one on my jet so i thought i would ask if it is worth it.

I could see one helping steer if you lose power while moving pretty fast, but other than that I don't think they help much. Plus they tend to drag on driveways and whatnot.

I have a heavy 20' day cruiser and it helped a lot at slow speeds! No difference at top speeds. I have the small rudder btw. This is one of those subjects that everyone will have their own opinion! Probably depends of the boat you drive!

I have a 19' deep vee hull. I never noticed any difference with it on or off. I left it off.

My Cvx-20 has always had one. Decided to see how handling was affected without it. Above no wake speeds there was little to no difference, but low speed handling sucked and docking was a pain. I ended up putting it back on because I was so used to having it. If you have a droop, I could see it dragging all over the place. Mine drags on the driveway if I don't put the diverter all the way up, and I don't run a droop on this boat.
