    Default Gullwing Pump Setup

Hi guys. I'm looking for any advice to better setup my Berkeley JG pump. I've just put in a blueprinted high helix impeller set up. The pump is set back, has a stuffer, droop snoot, small wedge, hydraulic diverter, basic loader and basic flat aluminum ride plate with shoe. I'm running an aluminum headed 509 BBC on pump gas that makes around 650hp. This whole set up is in my 18' Medium layup Gullwing. The boat seems to leave pretty hard and spins around 5400 on the big end. Im getting low 80s mph but I know its got more. I feel I should be looking to upgrade loader, shoe and ride plate. Is this accurate or is something else out of whack? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What type of shoe are you running? In my old gullwing (a not-that light 19') I ran a 2* backcut (13 1/4" opening) with reasonable success. Tried a 2.8* backcut (12 5/8" opening) and lost about 2.3mph.
This was with 650 horses of BBC turning a prepped B+ to 5600-5650rpms. Best speed I got out of it was 91mph.
Oh, and a nice MPD open center loader. I tried a loader with a few inches of blocker and lost 1/2 to 1 mph.

If I was as anal as you, I probably could go faster! Not a put down by any means...
650 dream hp BBF, spins A- to 56 and 90 or so.
MSD digi7 took a bigger dump last trip and I got smoked by a 72mph boat.
    Hate everything.
My little wonder ran 92+ last trip and this trip's first half hour. MSD digi7 said no more than 60 after a half hour on the water.
but still worth it, when it worked.FWTW

Are you sure the dig7 just died? Where are the large red and black wires going? Battery I hope. You check the coil those 8261 coils do fail. Check your connections those boxes are really good and should not fail.

All wiring is per instructions, with solder/shrink wrap. Dials set to V8.
It started in March with the rev limiter cutting power at 4500 while set at 6500. Then set at 8500 or max and motor gets to 56. MSD tech said to send it back immediately, but procrastinated. Last weekend it would choke and puke at 3/4 throttle and below(?) but good at WOT. Then on the last run just choked and puked. Its crazy how much better everything ran while it did run!
    sorry about the threadjack

The shoe and ride plate both look real basic, almost like home made machined out of 1/4" aluminum. That's my guess is that I need to play with loader, shoe and ride plate cuz what I've got just aint cuttin it! Thanks for your input.

BTW pressure gauges tapped into the upper and lower parts of the suction housing will tell you an awful lot about whats happening in there...

you didnt say what cut impellor. Low 80's at 5400 sounds pretty stout to me.Most of those boats run in the mid to high 70's at 5400.
