    Question Exhaust gasket riser ?

I have indmar exhaust manifold and risers. The gaskets have cracked and sprung a leak on me. So I am replacing them. The guy at my local boat shop said don't use silicone because it causes the gaskets to crack. Should I not use silicone or use silicone?

gaskets usually cracked on me so I just USE high temp rtv and havent had a exhuast leak. (permatex rtv silicone gasket maker)

i should add that, that was with OT headers and had a buddy hold the headers while i bolted up a few bolts to not get the silicone all over the place.
