    Default Loaders

    Question...

Recently I fabricated a new loader grate for a friends jet river racer. I copied the design he had. It worked well at the races in San Angelo. However it became apparent due to another crash out there that a loader failure is extremely dangerous! The loader I fabricated was mild steel and mig welded. I was wondering if any one could suggest the best welding procedure and material for a loader? Also why are they not constructed of stainless steel and tig welded?

    Mig welding is fine.

Chrome moly minimum of 3/16 thick

They have been made from mild steel for a long time. Those seem to be the ones that have failed recently that have been documented. Mild steel on a regular lake boat I'm sure is just fine.

But they need looked at frequently.

Chrome had not crossed my mind. Thanks. The boat is an 82mph ride, not too fast but i want it to be safe.
