Default I'm lookin for a new ride for next season. (WHat to buy)

So, I want to start thinking about a family boat to put together over the winter or just buy turn key. I'm considering for the first time ever, an open bow. I have two kids now and a big ass dog. ( im not gettin any smalle either). So I want a quality hull that I can build a nice motor for in the 20'-21 range. It needs to be able to ride well in rough water and pull skiers and such. But I also want to be able to run a decent blown motor in the future. Definitely nothing with a tropical name!! hahaha What say you squirters ?

I am new to this site and thought your question very good. I was looking for pretty much the same input in the archives before I bothered anyone with my questions. Since you brought it up, I would like to ask another few things to the collective wisdom. Is there a definite "no" for the question of jet drive manufacturer? Top three in quality for day cruisers I should focus on? From what I gathered, Hallett seems to be a top contender.

My family wants to do the water sports stuff which I like, but my main interest is driving the boat and having just plain fun with it. I have to admit that I am apprehensive about the day cruiser route. If these things handle and perform like my father-in-law's Sea Ray, I aint interested. With a 350, its still a pig. I really dig the 1970s boats. They are gorgeous. Just need a nudge in the right direction.

There is a red and white boat in a post by fuelinmyveins82 in boat pics that seems to fit my thinking as ideal for me. Anyone know this boat or at least what it is exactly? 2 seater? 4 seater? The pic has 2 girls not facing the camera, sitting on the edge of the boat.

As I said before, I was checking past posts and blogs for this subject. Mr. "Dawg" and his lovely ladies completely distracted me though. Shoot. I forgot what the hell I was doing here in the first place, so thanks for bringing me back on track!

I have a 1993 Caliber 1 206 Magnum I was thinking of selling. It is a I/O. 350 Mag and Alpha 1 drive. Runs out stock at about 60 mph. Will run about the same with 1 person as it does 9. Be wanting $8k for it, Has 400 hrs on it. Runs purrrfect.

The thread on making the 21' daytona into an open bow is certainly a sexy combination of performance with fat chick carrying abilities!!!

Well it is not really for sale. I would sell it. Everything I own is for sale. As far as the Jet Boat section goes...Oh Well. Thought in that size of a boat and what he is wanting to do a I/O is a much better choice. Thought he might concider a upgrade from a Jet. I tow the Grandkids around all weekend and do not burn 25 gallons of gas and it will run 60. And it is a Cherry Boat.

I can put you in a nice Rayson cruiser! Still have the original bucket seats. All you need is some wet logs. I personally guarantee it can handle all the motor you want to give it. As a matter of fact, I also know where to find a nice fresh blown motor with all the trimmings...

yea yea, it's not a jet. eat me.

Well no offense, but you have no idea where I boat or what is best for me. A small block I/o is not something that would interest me, or suit my needs, wants or desires. I also don't give a chit about fuel consumption and if I did I sure wouldn't own a blown alcohol BBC .

Rick - Now, technically speaking...it will float. She's at Mel's for repairs. It will be better/stronger than before (no BS shortcuts).

BTW, this boat was originally a pleasure setup with the engine back, through transoms, etc... I understand your interest in a jet; they have certain benefits in shallow water and there's the safety thing with the kids. Jets are a terrific purpose-design.
