Default Too short of bolts or what?

Eliminator Sprint which I've had about a month. BBC, Dominator pump, ride plate. Ran pretty good, so I installed a Place Diverter to get a little more out of it. Really helped alot, ran great- for a day. While my nephew's Hydrostream with the big Merc was getting stomped, this is what happened. All the bolts were pulled out of the bowl. It played hell on the impeller and I'm afraid the shaft as well. The only thing I can think of is whoever serviced this pump before I got it used too short of bolts into the bowl. The threads only go in 5/16" into a 1" deep hole. Or could the higher bowl pressure due to the smaller nozzle have caused this? Or could have it been the extra leverage of the diverter? This is my first jet, so yes I'm a newbie. Of course this happened Sat.7/2, so I had a great weekend. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

What happened is truly unfortuante and Dominators because of the thick suction flange ,typically have more thread engagment than what appears in your picture it would look like those bowl bolts are 1 1/4 " vs 1 1/2" Tom

Someone put that together with berk bolts. Need longer ones with a Dom. Suction.

Balls out. Maybe mid 70s. The nephews Hydrostream runs low 70s GPS and he was getting passed.

Longer bolts and double drill & Tap. Also double drill and tap for the diverter and use studs.

That ride plate has a hell of a hook to it.

Rule of thumb is you need 1.5 x the diameter of the bolt worth of engagement, anything less is not enough. Like mentioned those were way too short.

So a 1/2 bolt would need .75" of the threads engaged? How much does this rule change with different thread count changes?

JWT, same thing happened to me but mine wasn't anywhere near as bad. Luckily i only pushed the seal out! If what happened to yours would have happened to mine at the time, my boat would be at the bottom of the river (pump wasn't set back then)!
