    Default '76 Horizon Project

Got this boat last year in trade for some work, thought it would be a fun project not knowing that the pump was shot and just about everything that came with the boat was no good. Had to hold off on it until this summer and now its finally coming together. The original plan was to build the boat mostly out of trade work (got the boat in trade, the motor, and some other things) well that plan didnt last long.

The hull is a 1976 Horizon Model 22 (apparently not a very common boat to see)

Pump is a Berkeley 12JC, but has split bowl, droop snoot, and place diverter, it has a B impeller so that is what I am going to start with.

    Motor is a 454 bored .040 over
049 Heads with bowl work and Comp Valve Job
Comp Cam 244/254 with .570/.575 and Comp Ultragold Roller Rockers
    10.5:1 JE Pistons
    Offenhauser Marine Tunnel Ram
Most likely gonna run a 750 Holley
    Basset O/T Wet Headers

I have most the interior done, just picked up the motor from the machine (funny thing is that the shop I had grind the crank and resize the rods is actually the son of the guy who designed/built my hull) Should be ordering up the rebuild for the Pump this week and hopefully be assembling the drive train next week. Definately been a new experience compared to metal fab.

Im just trying to get most of the interior done and get it running mechanically for this season, next year I would like to do a new paintjob on it but at least its all white so it doesnt look terrible. Im excited to get it in the water, from what the son was telling me this was a very good turning hull and good all around boat.

Nice work! Should be a fun boat. I gotta ask, why the Pepto Bismol pink on the pump? Is there a theme for this boat?

Im kinda going with a retro theme. Ive always liked the bright colors of the 80s (pink, blue, yellow) and I already had the powdercoat from another project so that is what I went with. It will be different and all the chicks seem to dig it... LOL

Hey I looked at that boat and allmost baught it just because it was a tunnel, but a deal on a spectra came along and I passed.
Did You pick it up from craigs list here in Vegas? I thought it could be an intresting project with enough power thrown at it. But thats all I would have needed was another project. I will be keeping My eye on this one. If You need any help just give a shout....Hal

I'm not here for a long time, I'm just here for a good time!

Got the block painted today so I can begin assembling the short block tomorrow.

    Tunnel Ram

Yes I did pick it up off of craigslist here in Vegas last summer. I had hoped to get more done last year but my son being born and the lovely custody battle to follow put things on hold.

The hull is interesting how its like a mix of a tunnel hull and a V, so Im excited to see how it does. I cant afford to put a ton of power to it but Im hoping it runs well with what its getting.

Ill have more progress over the weekend, once the shortblock is assembled Im going to get it set in the boat to drill all the holes for the new mounts, the 3 point system that was in there was pretty haggard so I picked up a 4 pt system from a buddy to put in now.

@Hal, thanks for the offer, Ill let u know if I ever need a hand, my shop is off Hacienda and Decatur if your ever in the area and want to stop by and check it out.

After a couple drama filled years, I'm finally getting around to getting this thing in the water. Nice to finally see the thousands of dollars in parts ending up in one place.

Motor is a 454 .040 over, 10.5:1 JE pistons, all ARP studs, 049 heads with 2.19 and 1.88 valves, comp cams xtreme marine cam, crane gold roller rockers, offenhauser tunnel ram, holley 750.
