    Default Fuel Problem

    I have a fuel issue that im trying to work out and see if anyone has had the same problem. I am guessing that it is the electric fuel selector valve. The drivers side tank (according to the dash switch) works fine all day long and when I switch it to the passenger side, the motor cuts out. I put a different hose with a clear fuel filter and connected it to the selector valve. I turned the motor on with water in the pump and the motor ran fine on the drivers side tank. I switched to the passenger tank and it kept running. There was NO fuel in the fuel filter, with the passenger side switch on. I flicked the switch and it was still on. I doubt there was enough fuel to keep it running. So before running it for a minute or so, I "assume" there is a bad ground, that doesnt allow the switch to activate. I have a bad ground on the driver side dash for the electric hatch and stereo, amd am guessing that it also isnt allowing the switch to "switch" correctly. Its intermitin, so im not worrying about it too much till the winter time break down. One tank lasts all day, and when im idling i use the passenger side tank, till it cuts out when Im giving it gas. I was thinking that something was stuck in the line or in the tank, but that didnt appear to be the case. I miss my manual fuel selector valve...lol it got hot today, so I called it a day and will work on it when I put it in the garage.

    anyone had a ground issue with a fuel selector valve?

    the other issues with the ground where the diverter and hatch, both in which i just grounded directly to the battery and havent had any problems with. the hatch is running off a separate switch under the back seat and has came in handy already. the diverter also had a bad ground that didnt allow it to work at times.

    I just had this same problem in my 95' Advantage. The boat would run fine until 3800rpm under load. I did not check the ground but the valve was not opening all the way for either tank. I got rid of it and went to a three way ball valve. Good luck.

    Makes sense. I have an extra manual 3-way valve that will replace this if I dont want to mess with it. Nothing like running out on one tank in the middle of the river and not being able to switch to the full tank. Thats what I dont want to have happen. Thanks.

    Swap the lines at the valve....so take of drivers line from tank and put it on the valve where the pass line is currently hooked up. Then put pass hose from tank where drivers hose currently is. Change nothing else and retry the system. If your problem still occurs when selecting "pass" side (it's now pulling from drivers side) then it is the valve and nothing to do with that tanks or hoses from tanks. But if problems changes to "drivers" side (pass hose is now attached to it) then your valve is fine and you need to look at pass side tank and/or hose. Quick and easy way to verify or exclude the valve as the issue. However if it is intermittent like you mentioned, I would lean towards the valve being the issue.

    Default "Off?

    Is there an "Off" selection on your valve? Maybe it is on;y switching far enough to reach OFF. I also had an issue where the suction side of the pump would collapse the hose during "switch over" and because it was sucked shut, it wouldn't release until everything quit, then it would be fine. Drove me whacko for a while until I actually saw it happen.....
