    Default OT Header Question

Finished by Rogers engine build and I have a set of Rewarder OT headers that are water injected. I also had a set of the cheap Bassett Baffles and after a couple hard runs, noticed an exhaust level increase. Found that I had blown out the center of one of the baffles. The boat runs noticeably better with the baffles out but the wife can't handle the noise (and I'm concerned about a ticket). I can solve the wife issue, but was wondering what the concensus was on baffles? I'm sure this has been discussed many times but I couldn't locate an older post on the subject. Which baffles are best for BBC with 4" headers? Are there a good set of "not so expensive" Lightning type headers out there? Just trying to keep the peace.

My suggestion is if you run Parker and up river (needles, bullhead, laughlin) run the baffles. If you run south of Parker, (big river, lost lake, Aha, Blythe, Yuma) Keep them out.

If you're worried about a ticket, run some sort of mufflers/baffles. A loose quoting of Az Boatcop, "If you're making an effort, meaning muffled and water, chances are you'll get a warning if you're excessively loud.... No mufflers, you'll get a ticket and an invite to trailer your boat"....
Take it for what it's worth, but I've heard a Nevada "no muffler" ticket is $500......

X s 2 like Ray said re having something vs no Muflers or baffles , its been my expirience that most lakes and Leos will accept that you actually have something , some lake around here will simply turn you away at the launch . We purchased a digital DB meter to test these for our own satisfaction and The grim reality is that the majority of our boats including alot of thru hull setups would NEVER pass a true Cali DB test Had a call from the North west yesterday that said he was required to be below 80 db @ 3 feet , We have struggled to get open header boats to 86db with both "Shot guns" and internal baffles (paired up) . Best bet is to be on good behavior and hope for a friendly boat cop IMO Tom

So, If I decide to go with baffles. Which are the best? I don't like the cheap Bassett's since they seem to be too restrictive and the "high perf" type are around $250. I don't mind spending the $250 if I new they would do the job. If you have experience with different types of baffles, let me know what you think. I need to do something quick. Thanks!

The Header Baffles (not mufflers) that most of us sell will Knock down aproximatley 10 db on average and give a nice muscle car sound while only a minor reduction in performance (if any) $89 is a damn sight less than a $350 noise ticket Tom
