    Default Ford 460 problem

So i finally got my motor all put back together last week and went for a test run at lake elsinore. She ran great for one lap around the lake and all my gauges were reading right. all the sudden it starts sounding its like starving for fuel and starts missing. turns out there was all kind of air in my glass filter right before the carb. so i replaced the fuel pumps, filters and cleaned the carb. i took her to blythe 2 days later still missing out of the hole and any time i put my foot in it.

any help would be great. Jake

Alot of how it didn't run and nothing about why. Meaning ign, carb and feul delivery set-up. First question would be was it popping out the exhaust or carb. Second would be how long it sat before the test run? From what I hear from your'e question is a gas in the tank(or water) causing the problem. OR sucking air somewhere before the pumps or filters. M

There is a Coast Guard required check valve in the tank, it is in the tank fitting where the fuel line connects. These get rusted or gummed up and stick, that would be the next place I'd check since you have already been into the fuel pump, filter, lines, etc.

sounds to me like you are leaning out..... also check all the vaccum caps and plugs on the carb, have had this happen to me.

Hey i had the same problem with my 460, and i also had the cheap glass filter up by my carb. The carb sucked the little filter in the glass setup flat and wasnt letting enough gas to the carb. If you have another filter( not a glass one lol) pull it and give it a try, that was my fix...simple and easy, not saying its ur problem but it sounds like what i went thru lol
