    Default Quaggas revisited

    Somewhat panicked by stories re Quagga muscle inspections being stringent and being told of "completley dry bilge" requirements , topped off by my brother and his recent angry encounter (prior to launch) at adifferent lake. I carefully prepared the boat I was using for my first trip this year adding Dawn detergent and "douched " the bilge then put down an absorbent "pit mat" under the oil pan ,Then I stopped outside the Lake gate to check for moisture droplets (whew I'm good ) and proceded to registration, after the usual formalties the lady asked me to "fall in line" behind the boat ahead , we watched as the next lady ran her hand along the reachable side of the boat and NEVER lifted the boat cover to look in the engine bay , Next came my turn I watched as she took a quick glance in the bilge (exposed engine) again carresed the side of our boat and said "you may proceed to launch" Then I pulled ahead so Josh could be "inspected" and observed once more she ran hand down the side of his boat and told him to procede with a "nice boat" comment (never lifted the engine hatch) Anyone ? is this what this program is all about ? I respect the effort to save the waterways and on some level appreciate getting passed thru with no difficulties but if this program is to work why not do it right? Tom

    MY boat is registerd in AZ and everytime I go to Castaic it gets inspected. The fish & game officers are pretty thorough with inspecting the bilge. One even went as far as to remove the drain plug on the jet and feel around with his index finger. No big deal though, only takes about 2-3 minutes. I just got back from spending a week at Lake Mohave. I need to wash the bilge real good before going back out to Castaic next week. The main thing is to show up at the lake with a dry bilge.

    ive experience good and bad. going from az to ca i had on guy ask me to pull the plug on my jet ski (doesnt have a plug) and i had to unrap both of the 30ft ropes for my anchors. i havent had any problems with water in the bildge. i did have one inspector ask me to fire it up dry and told me if water comes out that he would quarantine me.

    interesting ? wonder if they considered potential w/pump of jet drive damage on a dry start ? Guess I'll take my "pit bucket"

    We deal with this every trip at videl junction and its a pretty easy deal and id say the people inspecting do a good job. Plug has to be out no water in the bilge and anchor is inspected most theroughly of all. I asume they r in the mud most of all. If u do have mud on ur anchor they have a psi washer right there they hit it with and send u on ur way. At first it was slow going but they move u through pretty fast now

    You obviously didn't go to the main marina at naci cause the girls who inspect are pretty hot

    silverwood does a good inspection, if you have been to another lake in last 30 days you will be turned away, if you have water in the boat you will be turned away.

    Well Tom i went up to Naci with plug out and had my inspection papers .Alls i got to say is the girls are HOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTT!

    Goin back to SA for a few days , with the Challenger this time (and a dry Bilge ) but a Motor home fridge full of beer , come hang out , we'll BBQ some muscles !

    All boats, personal watercraft, kayaks, canoes, sailboards, inflatables, and float tubes must undergo a mandatory inspection. This inspection is to prevent the spread of Quagga and Zebra Mussels. This invasive species threatens the recreational opportunities of the general public, the water delivery infrastructure of California, and the aquatic habitat of Silverwood Lake. These inspections are required to ensure the continued health and wellbeing of Silverwood Lake. Failure to allow inspection of any watercraft will result in the refusal to launch.

    All boats must be clean, drained, and dry!
    Boats that fail inspection will will be quarantined from launching for 7 days.
