    Default HELP-Ignition not firing

Ok guys need some help here, Just installed the new motor, 460 ford, set timing correct, installed a Billet Distributor and coil from msd, and using my old box, I know that may be the issue but here me out on this one, Engine cranks over no problem , it seems that when I throw the switch on for the ignition box I will get a single explosion from the motor and then it will turn over and nothing else will fire at all. I have triple checked the wiring with the only question being the dist manual shows a violet and green wire and the one I have has a violet and orance wire and not completely sure which one is pos and which one is neg but I am fairly certain the violet one is positive. Any thoughts, trying to get ready for Lake Anna and need some help, if anyone from the western mass area catches this I could use a hand brother!!!!

    Thank you

Don't know about the wiring color but a distributor 180 out of time would do that. I know cause I've done it before. (one to many beers)
    Just an idea

Might sound strange but it will run either way but if screws up the timming by 10 deg. switch them and try it.

So your MSD Distributor is set up to run off your stock box? Most MSD ignitions run from the MSD Box.

MSD's Ready to run distributors have 3 wires. Click on to this link below and look at page 7. Orange is Negative

    Default msd

Last year I had an electrical problem, which caused me to miss taking my boat to Anna. It took about two weeks to figure it out. The pickup in the dist went bad ($20 part) and I had marine msd box go bad. I had to replace both. The boat would run but started breakin up over 2000 in the water, finally it got to the point that it wouldnt start at all. The msd website should have the color codes for the crossing over the wires from a marine box to the marine dist with a msd 6al box etc...

    Default MSD Help

The ignition box I have is a msd 6A box, just the one that a friend gave me , he said it worked fine in his v-drive, I agree with the wires being switched, I just got back in checked the voltage coming into the box from the switch and I have 12 volts coming into the box, the thing that is puzzling is that when I tirn the switch on I get a single fire on whatever cylinder the cap is being pointed to and nothing else, sounds like the capacitor is shot which would mean the box was beas, never had an issue with a new one, I guess the next option is buy a new one and have it in next week, any other thoughts

I couldn't get a start with the MSD 6 that came with my boat so I took out the box and it fired right up. I think it's better to be running and trying to add the box than not running and fighting with it.

    Default gotta ask...

Which way does the rotor turn? And which way is it wired?...........Sorry, had to ask as I've seen the reverse rotation, (Ford vs Chevy) screw up more than one sharp mechanic.....Good luck..........MP

If you have tbhe ready to run dist, remove the box and see if it works. The R2R's are made to just plug the box in as an add-on.

If it's not a R2R dist., more to try to diagnose.

My Pro Billet Marine R2R fired beautifully and I run it w/o a box (no real use for one).
