Default Fuel Pressure on my 454

Im having some occational starting issues. And im thinking it has something to do with fuel flooding. Im 95% sure i have to much pressure going to my carb. 454BBC and im reading like 12psi at the carb gauge. Im pretty sure it shouldnt be more then 6-7. Unless there is something different with boats. Sometimes the boat is really hard starting, and i have to hold the peddle to the floor and crank for a bit to get it to clean out. so im thinking the fuel pressure is to high, and my bowl levels need to be checked. let me know if ya have any other ideas. Thanks.

Good place to start. Do you have a adjustable regulator? Your float levels might be high because of the psi. Fix the psi first then adjust the float levels. Good luck.

    Default Flooding

I have had a flooding problem like that before. I had a leaky float that would not shut the fuel flow off completely. I had an electric pump on it and it darn near filled my intake up with fuel before I knew what was happening. Float level could be too high, or sometimes trash in the needle can hold one open and flood but it sounds like you could just have a bit too much pressure. If you don't have a regulator, Get one on it and set to 6-7 Psi.

It has a regulator, just not adjusted right obviously. I didnt want to mess with it till i knew that 6-7 was for sure where it should be. I know my supercharged 351 only used 6.5psi, but just wanted to make sure nothing was different on the water. Thanks.
