Default Rocky Top Racing is Born !!!!

Over the last couple of years I have developed a passion for Drag Boat Racing.. My dad had Raced in the late 70s and early 80s and always had a jet boat runnin up and down the rivers and it got in my blood and never got out .. Since growing up I have had a few jet boats but I really always wanted to get on the ropes and give it a try .. I have a Winger now as most of you know but its no race boat, its fast and I can hang with them lake boats but its no race boat .. So I started lookin for a race weight 19 Daytona and a good friend of mine Scott Smith seen a Tom Papp Cheyenne on Craigs List and posted it up for me and after talkin with they guy about the boat it was what I was lookin for and I bought it .. The guy that I was talkin to was Jay Ernest, I'm sure there are a few on here that know him and the boat .. The boat has not been out of the barn since 2001 and that was the last time Jay raced it in a Texas race .. We made the deal several weeks ago and last Friday I headed out to Oklahoma to pick the boat up and can you beleave I got off at the very same exit I did when I bought my winger .. Crazy Huh Anyways the boat is/was a proven winner with alot of history behind it and i'm gonna try to get it together over the winter and I hope to get out there next season if this economy holds up for me .. I'm plannin on runnin it in the KDBA a few races and scratch this itch I got .. I'm sure over the winter I'll have several several questions for sum of you guys on things to do and not to do and try to get familiar with the boat itself ... I bought the hull only, no mota .. I'll keep yal posted as I go

Heres a few pics of the boat

Good Luck Mike! Very nice looking boat. I talked to Ervin about this boat a few weeks ago as there are a couple of guys in our neck of the woods looking for similar projects. What class/engine combo are you considering?

I'm gonna ease into it and use what I already have .. I pulled a 468 out of my winger when I built the 540 so i'm gonna put that mota in it to get sum seat time with the boat .. It will be a single seat, center steer deal and the boat is real lite so it should push it pretty good .. Probley in the 11 seconds to start off .. The 468 pushed my winger to right at 90 mph so i'm thinkin it will be close to 100 in this boat.. Ervin done the bottom and had alot to do with the setup on the boat as him and Jay were the best of friends. I'm gonna pull the pump out and have it worked up and ready to rock.. It has a elec. popoff and a older style ratchet a low profile intake.. Jay raced PGJ and UBFJ and I hope down the road to step it on up to, I just need sum time to get a fill for the boat and all the new hardware.. I've never owned a tunnel and i've never messed with popoffs and ratchets The boat came with all the pluming (all SS braided lines), MSD 7AL box, LifeLine chute Jacket, 5 gallon fuel cell, all the motor mounting hardware and a bronze B impeller .. It just really needs sum TLC and maybe some new improved hardware and alittle pump work ..

Thanks for all the compliments, I'm pretty excited to get her out on the river and take it fora spin

What a great find. Love the name " Manipulator " along with the Bruce Willis phrase on the back.
