    Default Dana Marine Products....

back in 2006 there was a thread on the old HB forums about an on-the-fly adjustable nozzle. Someone from Dana (Bob?) made this post:

    "Dana Marine Products
We've produced 10 nozzle units that are out there. The one that was in HB was blue ano. I'll try to dig up the HB article. This part was initially designed to be a part of another much larger scale jet project. Some questions have arose as to how well it would benefit a normal jet application. If you're already running a place diverter, the difference could be minimal. It really depends on the boat, every boat reacts different to these types of things. The concept is that it would give you the ability to make several adjustments from the drivers seat while underway. These adjustments could very well take your boat to another level. In some boats, the differences may not be noticable. But in others, (probably in most cases) it will be a noticable increase in take off, mid range, and top end.
I can't say too much about this at this time, but what I can say is that within the next 12-24 months there will be a revolution in the jet drive industry. We have already produced and ran something that will change the way jetboats are viewed. Let's just say there's alot of room for improvement over all current jet drive designs. "

Whatever became of the "revolutionary" product? Was it a victim of the economy or will is still be available?

    Tom,

Please post a higher resolution version of the documents. My tired eyes can't read it.

Hey that's our buddy Jeff's boat. Don't know alot about the boat but I know it's still around.. All that adjustable stuff is no longer on the boat. The boat stays next to my buddy's at the river. He is doing a tune up on it as we speak so it can be back out on the water this summer.

Jeff's boat never ran with that nozzle assembly. The finished, functioning product was still a ways out, so he opted for a Place Diverter and moved on. This project was shelfed many many years ago because back then, there wasn't a big crowd willing to spend that kind of money on a nozzle asembly.

I had dreams about getting that program going again, but sadly, the reality is that it most likely will not happen. Back in the beggining there were some electrical position sensor issues. In todays times, with advancements in technology that would be a much easier problem to solve.

Unfortunately, due to the amount of issues still pending needing resolution and a bunch of $$$ to finish the R&D, its not realistic to say it will get to market any time soon.

As far as the other larger scale project, we have been testing for over two years. With some economical wrenches being thrown into the program, it's taken it's tole on us and we've shelved the project tempararily. It's not over, just shelved. Actually we just discussed the other day getting the boat out and dusting it off. It's still quite far from finished, but is something that we've already gotten wet. So we're not at the drawing board anymore.

    Thanks,
    Bob
