If I want to lift my boat off of the trailor could I hook to the engine in back and run a strap under the front

This is the way to do it if you have any access to a lift. Makes things way easy!

Ya, you can do that. Or if the pump is still in the boat you can run a strap around the pump and one around the nose and through the bow eye and lift it up. The hull is not that heavy, so lifting by the motor is really no big deal.
