Default Mr. Wilkes, A history ? for U.......

Hello Mr Wilkes, I have been told that you used to
work for Kona boats. I'm not sure if this is accurate
or not. If so, do you know the different models that were produced
in the early 70's? I have a 74' and it is different than all Kona's
I have seen. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your KONA Question. I worked for KONA BOATS from FEb 73 to the end for 78. We built a 22 DC, 2 different 21 DC 18 ft, bubble deck, 18 ft. standard flat deck 18 ft. long deck flat deck and a 17 ft. outboard.
Damm I had a good time with my friend Jerry Baker one of the owners of Kona Boats. I wish he was still alive.

Awesome! My buddy was right on. Mine's a 74 18' full stringer
boat, I've been working on it for almost 2 years now & it's
almost done. Holorinal's boat is close to mine, but the top is
different. Were there different performance changes to the
different models( I think mine might be a Maki??) The reason I'm
asking is mine had a Indmar 454 ls6/7 motor in it and a steering/
stabilizing fin forward of the intake which looked factory?
    Thanks for the info!!!!

    Default 20' Kona Day Cruiser

Jim....... I am the guy that got the 460 flywheel from you a few weeks ago thanks for the help there. It is for my 78/79 built 80 Kona. It was a Corvette L82 AQ 290A w/280PT drive now I an putting a DOVE 429 in front of the 280. If it all works good I will be looking for a Volvo DPX-A Dual Prop for it. The original owner told me this was a boat show boat for 2 years. I have had it since 90 and am working on getting the interior and motor setup.

I can tell by part of the installation that this boat has had many up-grades from the original installation. Thru transom exhaust on I/O's was never done back then.

Your boat still looks good. Post more pictures when you get it completed'

    Thanks

Jim I have been looking at a v-drive Baker/Kona cruiser. I have been told that a v-drive won't work with the hull. Any input.

Rocket 98 Connolley Boats rigged all of Jerry bakers v -Drive boats. I don't remember building any V-Drives at Kona Boats But he did build some as Baker Boats. The 20 Ft Baker will work fine up to about 80 MPH after that your on your own. They want to chine walk as most with alot of deadrise do.

I did see Jerry's 25 ft. Baker a few weeks ago on the Parker Strip. It's Black and purple with some blues if I remember right.

    Default Kona Daycruiser?

Mine has a pad as I think most would since they were primarily jets driven. Since it has an I\O and I am installing a DPX-R in place of the old AQ280. What speeds would I possibley see with 500hp BBF and what would be safely obtained?
