    Default Eliminator v-drive daycruisers

    A couple of great looking late 70's and early 80's Eliminator v-drive daycruisers are on the market. But this hull design has gotten a lot of discussion about bad handling characteristics at high horsepower and speeds. My question is simple. If the engine and v-drive locations, shaft angle, and propeller are correct, will this hull perform?

    Just for discussions sake, lets set time and money aside. If set up correctly will these hulls perform safely at 75-80mph?

    Bad cad the boat your talking about was built as a jet boat first. Round bottom and i want to think about 15 degree dead rise. Now to the point. Yes the boat can run 75 to 80 safely with the proper set up. After 80 this start to happen that makes the boat want to chine walk. I have a friend with a big blown engine is the 20 eliminator and it runs 90 but we put a lot of work making it run safe at that speed.

    So Jim, can you tell us just what you did to make the boat work with big power? There are several people on this site that would love to know what works. Mine gets scary at 60 mph. I really like the boat and would love to build a little more power and still have it save if it went a little faster.

    bocco The two arears that we work on were cav plate setting and propeller size and pitch. In my opinion must of the 21 Eliminators run the wrong size propeller.

    So what size prop works? I've found that a smaller diameter reduces the problem but doesn't eliminate it. Also smaller ears helped a little.

    How much "up" is in the plates in the full up position? More at the outside?

    Also what did your friend use for water pick ups? Many people think that the big brass ones are the problem.

    Default 21 eliminator

    i have a 21 eliminator monaco v-drive. i know the bottom is different than most 21's, it has a delta pad. i am currently running 89.8 mph, and im burning the crap outta the little prop. im hoping for a little more with a little bigger prop. this thing acts like a caddy and seems to have no isssues at any speed. feels like it wants to go faster anyone ever heard of any issues with this 21.

    That sure is the same boat as mine. I was supposed to call and talk to you about it but never got around to it. Can you tell us about your setup? Power, speed and handling? Mine was rigged by Connolly and done nicely in my opinion. But it does weird shit even at only 60. I have heard that the water pickups are part of the problem. I have tried adjusting the outer corners of the cav plates up higher than the middle. But my plates are electric and the motor can't push them high enough. I don't mind throwing some money at this if I know it will work.

    Sounds like you have a "sister boat" , mine currently has a Blower motor (around 600+ hp ) 12x15 Three blade 3 Stainless , C500 with 14% OD I've driven the boat at 70 with no ill handleing or unconfortable feeling Motors only got a few Hrs on it and I know it has more My Plates (Electric also) are "zeroed" and I never touch them Maybe I just got lucky ?
