New to the area...

Watched some of youtube vid's from some of last years events and it's nice to see a wide variety of boat types. Can someone tell me if there are any state restrictions or requirements at these events as far as inboards go such the need for mufflers, water injected headers, etc.???? Thanks

The legal, politically correct answer is all state laws apply.

We generally seek out lakes where we're either welcomed or don't have a DNR presence. Guys have gotten away with wet or dry headers without issues. The only time in the last 4 years (that I'm aware of) that we were approached by DNR/lake cops was at Charlevoix when a couple of the boys were running zoomies on blown alcohol motors. No tickets handed out, just asked to keep the noise down.

Marble Lake's Hot Boat weekend has a DNR special event permit for racing and exhibition. Boats do not need to conform to USCG regulations-- No noise or other restrictions are in place within the race course and the Corn Island sandbar, HOWEVER, the non-conforming boats need to be driven DIRECTLY to the sandbar where the hot passes and grudge races take place, and driven DIRECTLY to the launch at the end of the day. Speed and noise limits are still in effect for the rest of the lake. If you want to explore the lake and the rest of the lake chain, you should bring your mufflers. The race course is usually around 600 feet to keep speeds reasonable, offer a good shut-down zone, and to give the jet boats a chance. ;) The local law enforcement will protect the buoyed area at the end of the course to keep lake traffic out. This is a totally noise-and-speed-friendly event. Zoomies and NOS are OK. I will likely attend and shoot photos as I have in past events. Prints will be available in the weeks following the event.

The Wamplers Lake dates are scheduled before and after the normal boating season, and usually we do not have a strong law enforcement presence on those weekends. The lake is split between counties, so it's possible for either Sheriff patrol to make a surprise visit. When the cat is away, the mice will play. If the swim buoys are in place, we must park to the South of the swimming area, or pull up to the peninsula near the launch canal. The launch is at the far North end of the park, beyond the beach parking area. If you arrive and it looks like nobody is there, just keep driving to the far end of the main lot, where you'll find the driveway to the launch parking.

I think the racing start's around noon-one but dot hold me that, we get there around 11:00 there are many hotels at the main coldwater exit off 69 if you coming up that way? if so just search coldwater hotels. I will look up the ramp info and post I later...we will be staying in coldwater Saturday night

Marble Lake

^What they said^

The launch ramp is a free public ramp. There's a little "last stop" party store on Ray Quincy Rd about a half-mile North of Wildwood Rd. where you turn right to get to the ramp. The Corn Island sandbar is just North of the launch ramp, you can't miss it.

There's also a "pay" ramp on First Lake, just up the canal from Marble Lake.

The sandbar is shallow and SANDY, but there's a couple of deep clay holes lurking in the shallow water. Everyone WILL laugh when you drop into one of those holes while you're wading around with your beer. ;)

I draft pretty deep, and I have never nicked my drag prop at the start. It's pretty muddy and weedy back there.

I should have an Allison planer foil installed in the next couple of weeks to help it lay down quicker. I will also be running without my back seat or ski locker cover to lighten the load a bit. I hope I don't hurt too many big blocks' feelings. (Kidding)

Like always, if you run your boat, you will probably get your picture posted here. WEAR YOUR LIFELINE VESTS and stay sober, please? I would rather not post photos of people being suicidal.
