    Default insurance

Hi guys. Came home from work yesterday and went through my mail. Got a letter from my insurance co. saying my boat insurance has been cancelled. Didn't say why. So I call, today and they say, " Our underwriter said, " the boat is a 1974 and is only worth 1,000-1,400 dollars". I said " the motor is worth 6,000 grand and the hull 4,000. Thats where I came up with 10,000 dollars". They said sorry, as of Nov. 1 its no longer covered. What a crock of sh*t. I now feel like cancelling cars and house and going else where.

You really never had boat insurance in the first place.
If you ever made a claim they would find the speeds that flatbottoms are capable of, compare that to what top speed you told them it would go, refund the premiums and wash their hands of the whole deal.

Just got back in. I wouldn't doubt it. Paid 300 in Aug. They said I'll get a refund if there is one. Still dont get it. Why did it take almost 3 months to cancel.

Take ALL your business else where. I have had no problem what's so ever insuring the boats. They seen them and know all about them and concur on what they & trailers are worth. They are cheap to insure, under home owners insurance.

They made me bring it in to take pics in Aug. Paid money before I got it, didn't want to trailer it without insurance. Their like, wow nice boat, shouldn't be a problem. Then this. They did ask me how much to ins. it for. Then it went to who ever and they said no. Its sitting now, I hope homeowners covers it if something should happen this winter. Maybe 10,000 was too much to ask for to cover it?

Dewey, Hagertys in Traverse City will do it. Also if you have an appraisal done, most companies will insure it. Is a 55 chevy worth $250 or $25,000. Most autos will hit a three digit top speed...except if you are driving a Smart car and yet it is underwriten

It won't be covered by your home owners, until you have it put on. If the same company insures your house then........................time to move on to another company. $10,000 is not out of line IMO.

Still a little dumbfounded, not so good at this stuff. Guess I have to find someone I can trust. Never thought this would be a issue.

It's hopeless. V drive and insurance are opposites.
I am personal friends with the insurance agent and he exhausted all options.
I made many phone calls to insurance providers and it always ends the same,
    Hysterical laughter and a click.

And if you get them to write a policy and you didn't give them exact information on things like top speed or hp, they will used that to cancel the whole policy. This has been discussed many times and insurance agents have posted the procedure they would use to deny any claims.

You can get insurance on a v-drive if it has an enclosed engine and turbo chargers, that was what the guys in Cali were finding out with the day cruiser v drives. Open motor compartments and blowers were not insurable. As far as a flat bottom, pretty tough and if you have a claim, forgeddddaboudddittttt ! Perhaps Haggerty will insure it for shows and on the trailer, it would be a definate dog fight to get them to pay off on a collision or if you threw somebody out of it on a personal injury claim................ Let us know what you find out. I list them as R & D projects for my company and also have a 2 million dollar umbrella, for errs and omissions, chances are I would have a real fight if an altercation were to happen. One of the main reasons I took the blower motor out of my Sanger, I felt that I was to stupid to run it !!!!! Same reason why I quit flying lessons !!!!!!
