You know that would be quite a tribute if about 100 drag boats on trailers came down to that service.

John just built that new hydro and he would have certainly brought it to Hot boat weekend.
We could bring the hot boats to him ....... I'm in.

I'm only good for 87 db of noise though.

    Default John Haas

From what i understand, the Haas family wants people to bring their boats to the Sept. 11th memorial in tribute to john.

I may need to make this. When I was first switching to V-drives from jets, I was pretty clueless, and John gave me a lot of help.
I also had a lot of help from Tom Black (another top fuel driver, also deceased) and Dallas at Menkens props. I still run a Tom Black prop. The difference between the other guys and John was that I never paid John any money.

What kind of person does it take to be a top fuel driver? Kind of a funny story:
A friend of mine had a flat that he thought was really something, was rather afraid of, and he treated it like a princess. John got in it for the first time, and flat-footed the thing all the way across the lake. My friend was pissed off that his boat had been put at risk. I'll guess that it was nothing to John.

Another time, I went with the Chevillet brothers to pick up a new blown alcohol motor in their drag boat. It was fired up in the garage. I had tears running down my cheeks from the fumes, but it looked like just another normal day for John.

I witnessed his crash at Grand Rapids and watched them pull his capsule out with a broken canopy. When I talked to him about it later, it didn't seem to be a big deal.

I really think he lived and breathed this stuff. When I go out, may it also be doing something I love.
