    Default outboard mechanics?

Can anyone recommend any good outboard (1998 300's) mechanics in lower Michigan? I am in northwest Indiana and have been looking for a good outboard mechanic that could just go through my motors and check timing, idle, etc....just all the little things that will keep the motors running good. I am good with basic maintenance but don't want to get into the motors. Thanks again for any info.

    Mike

I'm up on tawas bay, that is quite a haul for you.. mel does'nt dabble much in the hi perf end of things.

Being that old they should have the injectors cleaned and flowed, the VST tanks and filters cleaned, leak down test, reeds inspected, tps checked, pressure/vacuum test gearcases etc.

The motors actually run great. I put sportmaster lowers on 3 years ago. Powerheads rebuilt approx. 5 years ago.
One of the motors started to idle low towards the end of last year. Every now and then at idle it has that little sneeze that some people talk about. I can bump the throttles up a little to get them to idle a little higher and it is fine.
I am being told it could be reeds? The TPS needs to be adjusted? Any other ideas?
I am going to start by checking the reeds, but do not know how to do any of the other stuff (tps, etc).

Motors run 100% perfect, except for the low idle and the "sneeze" that happens now and then at low idle. That is the main thing I am looking to fix.

    Thanks
    Mike

Kim Frank at Secord Lake Marina, Gladwin Michigan.
    Service Manager / part owner.
Long-time performance mechanic for inboard and outboard.

Helped me this winter rigging my new Edge Tunnel. Nice guy, even allowed me to use the Marina heated stall. Very good high performance outboard 2-strokes mechanic.

I'm at work and do not have phone # with me, check internet / information.
I have Kim's home number at home I can give to you if you have not found another mechanic closer to you.

Not sure a V drive is going to run to well on Lake Michigan in the rough stuff. Not knocking V Drives but not for everybody. Thanks for all ideas everyone is coming up with. If anyone knows anyone else, please keep them coming.

No, they are are cruiser type marinas. The high performance outboards scare them, but they will work on verados?

I am going to get some reeds from Chris Carson and start there. If the reeds are ok, I was given the name of a guy I can call to help me.

    Thanks for all the replies.
