    Default Best place to stay in Powell.

    Hi to all the locals;

    We are planning a trip to Powell in July. Friends have a houseboat, we opted to stay on land.....what is the best place to stay....we assumed Page as they are going out of Antelope Point(?) marina.

    Is the Marriot any good...should we rent a house/condo on the water???

    Any suggestions are welcomed.

    Thanks.

    BB

    No houses on or even near the water. Houseboat really is your best bet if it is decent and there is room for you. That lake is massive. You'll love the fact that you picked the 525s when there. You can actually get fuel for you boat on the lake at every marina.

    Exactly, that is one BIG reason why we did the 87 octane motors....as stated in some other thread, it was not due to the cost of premium but availability.

    We need to stay on land as our son is epileptic and needs to be near some good medical treatment...my wife freaks when we are too far from civilization with him....besides, these friends are great in "small doses" if ya' know what I mean.....they are the reason I wrote a TV reality show called "Houseboat Hell" that is slated for a pilot in fall!

    I think Page works for us..just asking if there are any nifty alternatives.

    Thanks for the input.

    Av-gas 100+LL readily available at Page airport, top of hill in town. Never seen 110 race gas in town but have never looked for it. Keep in mind that Powell is at ~3600+ ft elevation, which reduces your octane requirement by a couple of points as compared to sea level. I've run some pretty stout motors (11:1 n/a 598, 8:1 blown 568) up there on the crap marina gas and had no problems at all. I don't run them hard on that gas but for cruising it's just fine. 91 octane is available on the water at Antelope Pt and Hall's Crossing.

    Big sand dune near Wahweap is Lone Rock beach, in the west end of Wahweap bay. Way too crowded for my taste but reachable by road for RV type camping.

    Houseboats are cool for a week type of deal on the water, but for a long weekend I much prefer the freedom of beach camping, waaaaay up lake, away from the crowds. Fill up the coolers, pack the tent, sleeping bags, and some fire wood, and throttle up. Stop at Dangling Rope for some fuel and then get away from it all. Now we're talkin'! I definitely don't like staying in town and driving up lake each day, really limits the range and adds a lot of hassle to an otherwise relaxing experience.

    Yes, helps tons..this is the idea; stay in Page..Marriott...go to Antelope point, rent a slip, meet our friends on the houseboat, eat, drink, play on the Houseboat......see some sights..go back to the hotel each night. We may only do 3 days or so on the lake out of 5....our son is kinda touchy with heat (epileptic).

    Thanks for all the ideas.
