Default Wisconsin boat registration without an out of state title

I purchased a 81 nordic jet boat out of california in 2009....the seller gave me some registration paper work and I thought I had enough info to register the boat in Wisconsin (thought it was similar to snowmobiles)....yes im an idiot...

Ill save the timeline on the steps with what happened since then......

What are my options or what course to I need to take to register a boat in Wisconsin without the title from California?

    Thanks.

If there is a better spot to post this please advise

See if the state will allow you to place a Bond on the boat and trailer. Then register the boat and trailer. Then if anyone questions the registration you are covered. Try it.

Conditional Boat Registrations Wisconsin does not have provisions for bonded boat titles or conditional boat registrations when there is insufficient proof of ownership.

The above was copied and pasted from marinetitle.com

Sounds like that isnt an option

Default Do you have the CA registration numbers?

My court house will call the state of California to get the current licensed owners information. From there, you can send them a certified letter to get the boat current and title forwarded back to you. I am in Iowa, and the ladys at the DNR offices have happily done this for me before.

Most DNR offices have a direct phone number to every states boat registrations dept. They will look up the info while you wait.

If you need any help, I could probably get it done for you. Let me know.
